What is the first TV show theme song that comes to your mind as you read this question?

Asked by valdasta (2146points) September 19th, 2009

It amazes me how those old TV show songs stick in my head. “Here’s a story, of a man named Brady….”. What show tunes come to your mind or even comercial jingles. “Two all beef patties….” After all these years – what comes to your mind?

“Those Were the DAys” – All in the Family. When my son was a toddler, he used to stop what he was doing and stare at the TV when that came on.

Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song,
And I’ll try not to sing out of key…”
“With A Little Help From My Friends” from The Wonder Years

@all the Happy Days people: I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been singing, “I found my thrill, on blue berry hill…” in Richy Cunningham fashion. (my wife has no idea what’s wrong with me.)

I admit that it took a very long time to dredge up from memory. I hardly watch TV now.

A second one is..

It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmosphere
I’m all alone, more or less
Take me far, far away from here
Fun, fun, fuuuuunnn
In the sun, sun, suuuunn

Then we have the annoying Powerpuff Girls Song which is so hard to forget…..

Shegrin's avatar

Well, it actually starts with a ukelele and then we hear Ron Howard say, “This is the story of the Bluth family.” Then a mini organ comes in and Mr. Howard tells us the lyrics to the theme song.

Shegrin's avatar

@previte: The Banana Splits theme song.. Yes. And it always reminds me of a particular Bach piece I can never remember the name of. The first 4 measures are the exact same notes. Like “Twist and Shout” vs. “La Bamba.”

brinibear's avatar

This is a song that never ends yes it goes on and on my friends, some people started singing in not knowing what it was and still continued singing it forever just because it is the song that never ends…....(yeah, you know the rest) Lamb Chop

valdasta's avatar

@whatthefluther Thank you! I bet you pulled that out of your head without batting an eyelash…or your talking bird told you.

whatthefluther's avatar

@valdasta…..My younger sister loved that show so I remember being subjected to it on a regular basis. As for the bird, I’m only certain he cursed me repeatedly, today, as he does everyday, without fail. And as usual, I flipped him “the bird” in return, which to date, he has failed to replicate. See ya….Gary/wtf

And then there is this one:

We chased lady luck, til we finally struck-
BONANZA
With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope,
We planted our family tree.
We got a hold of a pot full of gold,
BONANZA
With a horse and a saddle,
and a ring full of cattle,
How rich can a fellow be?
On this land we put our brand,
Cartwright is the name,
Fortune smiled,
the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.
Here in the west,
we’re livin’ in the best
BONANZA
If anyone fights anyone of us,
He’s got a fight with me
BONANZA
Hoss and Joe and Adam know every rock and pine,
No one works fights, or eats, Like those boys of mine
Here we stand in the middle of a grand
BONANZA
with a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope,
We planted our family tree,
We got a hold of a potful of gold
BONANZA
With a houseful of friends where the rainbow ends,
How rich can a fellow be?
On this land we put our brand Cartwright is the name,
Fortune smiled, the day we filed the Ponderosa claim
Here in the west we’re living in the best
BONANZA
With the friendliest, fightingist, lovingist band,
That ever set foot in the promised land
And we’re happier than them all.
That’s why we call it
Bonanza…bonanza.. bonanza..

If you like to talk to tomatoes
If a squash can make you smile
If you like to waltz with potatoes
Up and down the produce aisle…
Have we got a show for you!
VeggieTales, VeggieTales, VeggieTales, VeggieTales,
VeggieTales, VeggieTales, VeggieTales, VeggieTales!
Broccoli! Celery! Gotta be
VeggieTales!
Lima beans! Collard greens! Peachy keen!
VeggieTales!
Cauliflower! Sweet and sour! Half and hour!
VeggieTales!
There’s never-ever-ever-ever-ever been a show like VeggieTales!
There’s never-ever-ever-ever-ever been a show like VeggieTales!

I still watch the power rangers when I have time. (: and I’m 16!
I remember when I was like 7 or 8 when this came out. I used to watch it all the time!

brinibear's avatar

@cyndihugs wow, I watched the Power Rangers everyday when I came home from school. I was in kindergarten when it came out in ‘92. But I’m glad that somebody it enjoying the “classics”

cyn's avatar

@brinibear I was born in 1992, but I didn’t watch it until later. (;

Darwin's avatar

@brinibear and @cyndihugs I was raising children in 1992. I don’t consider the Power Rangers a classic. Now if y’all were watching Sky King or My Friend Flicka (the TV series), or even The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin it might be different.

brinibear's avatar

@Darwin I watched the adventures of Rin Tin Tin. I liked it. I was mainly into cartoons though. Like EEK the Cat, Earthworm Jim, AAAAAHHHHHHH! Real Monsters, Ren and Stimpy

Darwin's avatar

@brinibear – We had Crusader Rabbit, the original black and white Looney Tunes, and Rocky and His Friends.

Most of the ones you mention are recent, from the 90s or later.

janbb's avatar

@Darwin Now that’s a stroll down memory lane. I haven’t thought of Crusader Rabbit in years. Rocky and Bullwinkle was my favorite cartoon show; my brother and I still make references to it that my Egnlish husband can’t understand. (“Fanmail from some flounder?”)

In another thread, I listed Mr. Peabody as my main TV crush from years back.

So no one told you life was gonna be this way
Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s D.O.A.
It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear
When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year
But
I’ll be there for you (when the rain starts to pour)
I’ll be there for you (like I’ve been there before)
I’ll be there for you (because you’re there for me too)

From F.R.I.E.N.D.S. my all time favorite show
