What monthly fee would you be willing to pay to use this site?

Asked by BenByTheWay (147points) October 3rd, 2009

This is not true, of course, but let’s say hypothetically, that you found out that they needed to charge a monthly fee to keep this site running. What would be an acceptable amount for them to charge before you decided that it wasn’t worth it to continue using the site?

@Simone_De_Beauvoir So if the fee was $3 you would stop using the site?

oratio's avatar

Well, you see, I think there are a bunch who would pay to stay, but I don’t think much people would join.

If we had to pay to stay,
I’d haul my ass off far away

$0
its the principle of the thing.

The best things in life are free!

oratio's avatar

On the other hand, it would keep away trolls.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

Nothing. I wouldn’t pay anything to use any site.

eponymoushipster's avatar

i’ll give you 1000 lurve to never ask this question again.

patg7590's avatar

@oratio I don’t think so, I think it would discourage new members more than it would a dedicated troll.

BenByTheWay's avatar

@eponymoushipster Why do you not like the question? Are you afraid the site owners will get some bad ideas from it? I don’t think they need to charge:

That would then mean , lurve would have to be prized back to us .
If lurve becomes prizes , said prize would be cheap and nasty unless price was high .

eponymoushipster's avatar

@BenByTheWay no, because if they wanted to do that, i’m sure it would have already crossed their minds. it’s simply a dumb question.

BenByTheWay's avatar

@eponymoushipster Why is it a dumb question?

tandra88's avatar

If it’s not free, people will just go to Yahoo! Answer where it’s free. I wouldn’t pay anything.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@BenByTheWay what say do you have in coming up with a charge or fee for usage of this service, and why would you assume that money needs to enter into it at all?

hey, why don’t we pay for twitter, that way everyone can drop $10/month to know that ashton kucher just dropped a nugget at the bellagio.

sandystrachan's avatar

Advertising is how they get paid , why would they need our money .
@eponymoushipster I would pay double that to read someone killed him .

tandra88's avatar

@eponymoushipster xD That’s funny. I know people stupid enough to do that too.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@sandystrachan as would i, friend, as would i.

@tandra88 sadly, that’s true.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@BenByTheWay…eponymoushipster isn’t saying it’s a dumb question or that it shouldn’t be asked. This question has been asked before.

sandystrachan's avatar

* Sits with credit card in hand , waiting to pay $20 to read Ashton Kucher has been killed . An extra $50 if pictures are involved *.

Facade's avatar

I wouldn’t pay anything. I need my money for other things.

Is there some reason for the recent spate of questions inviting users to discuss and support changes to fluther?

sandystrachan's avatar

Newbies must hate how fluther is nothing like other sites .

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@oratio There is already a mechanism in place to deter trolls.

sandystrachan's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Really ? :O how come so many get past then

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

I wouldn’t pay a penny. I don’t believe we should have to pay to share our opinions with people.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@sandystrachan Because mods have other jobs that pay better.

sandystrachan's avatar

Eeeeeeeee @The_Compassionate_Heretic Mods should only ever have one job , thats a fluther moderator . Shocked at you mods :O ~

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

Also it’s tough to stay on everything here all the time with life’s distractions so we need to ask everyone for help in this by flagging trolls. We’re a community after all ^_^

augustlan's avatar

Now that I’m thoroughly addicted, I’d pay $5 a month to keep the site going if I had to. But I’d never pay to join a site.

sandystrachan's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic I enjoy Troll hunting , it brings me great joy to click flag .—Fluther should have a dedicated flag a troll option , be fun would it not

Blondesjon's avatar

@sandystrachan . . .Who decides who the trolls are? It would be fun until somebody came along and flagged you as a troll. Sounds a lot like McCarthyism to me.

@augustlan . . .I’d like to think that I would feel the same but I think it would change the Fluther vibe in such a way that it would be the beginning of the end.

On the other hand, if I had any money to spare, I would have no problem donating to the site. Do they accept donations?

eponymoushipster's avatar

at best…best… we could have a fluther vimeo telethon. like jerry’s kids, but less hair dye and more sexy action!

some would sing.
some would dance.
some would stare at my pants.

ratboy's avatar

What? Some people are using this site for FREE!

noodle_poodle's avatar

none unless people get payed for their opinion it would be silly to charge to receive it

Dawifey's avatar

$0 I like the fact that for once I can let out what I feel and help others with no charge to me

sandystrachan's avatar

@ All : We all in a way pay to use this site and many others , we pay our providers a fee lulzy

augustlan's avatar

@Blondesjon I agree. It would be the beginning of the end.
