What kind of regulations should exist for the adult industry?

Asked by airowDee (1791points) November 5th, 2009

Do you think there should be mandatory stds testing?
Do you think certain sexual acts should not be allowed? (double anal penetration, violent sex, gangbang)
Do you think there should be mandatory condom use?
Do you think there should be harsher punishment for drug use in pornography

I think condoms in porn are a turn off.
Just sayin.

Hey, if you want to gamble with your life like that.. I don’t care what they do.
But I’m sure that every so many months they do STD testing.

Do you think there should be mandatory stds testing? Yes
Do you think certain sexual acts should not be allowed? No
Do you think there should be mandatory condom use? No
Do you think there should be harsher punishment for drug use in pornography No

poisonedantidote's avatar

yes, for every scene.
no, not if everyone is a consenting adult.
no, not if there are other forms of birth control and std’s are controled for already.
no, all drugs should be legal.

Do you think there should be mandatory stds testing? Yes
Do you think certain sexual acts should not be allowed? Yes – That’s a very “all encompassing” question. There certainly should be limits somewhere…
Do you think there should be mandatory condom use? Who would enforce this? Are there a lot of babies born or aborted as a result of porn? I have no idea.
Do you think there should be harsher punishment for drug use in pornography? Nah. Same rules across the board.

What uber said.

Ideally I would like to see a economic system where people didn’t need to fuck on camera for money to buy food.

The American Dream. I think we just caught up to eastern Europe.

Wasn’t it not so long ago there was a big kerfuffle because a porn starlet was HIV+, and lots of unprotected sex?

airowDee's avatar

yup, Lara Roxx got HIV from a man in Brazil.

She said the agency did not explicitly told her she would be doing certain sexual act until she got on the scene.

@rangerr

The condoms are a turn off but I’ve seen some stank ass lookin’ hos and dewds who probably got that way from not wearing condoms when shooting porn. But I agree.

If they’re adults they know what they are capable of, willing to do, etc. I’ve never seen drug use in pr0n so I’m not sure on that one. STD testing would be nice but (?) costly.

RedPowerLady's avatar

Yes on all of the above. I could probably think of more too.

And what makes condoms a turn off? That is a scary thought in my mind.

jrpowell's avatar

@nxknxk :: I get a STD test all the time at Planned Parenthood. It is free.

nxknxk's avatar

@johnpowell

In that case I’d agree it should be mandatory.

Sarcasm's avatar

I don’t think there should be regulation.
It should be up to the actors and actresses themselves to say “I’m not doing this until my costar is proven to be clean”. If they don’t mind DOIN IT with someone who has an STD, that’s their business.
I also think it should be up to the actors and actresses to personally decide what acts to do or not do, or whether or not to wear a condom, or what drugs to do.

Facade's avatar

Condoms are definitely a turn off. And I think they should have their STD statuses available to whatever partners they may have.

The fact that there is an industry at all just shows how fucked up our society is. People are so afraid of intimacy that they are titillated by acts of others who have no real intimacy and as a result they are even further removed from true intimacy.

Prostitution should be legalized and that should be regulated and all agents should be independent contractors under the state. It would eliminate the predatory element of the whole thing by taking away those who profit from the abuse of “working girls” and ” working men”.

faye's avatar

My dad said 60 years ago that prostitution should be legalized. porn gets too much airtime. What did those poor men do 100 yrs ago?

rangerr's avatar

@RedPowerLady Porn is a lot about the sexual attraction/appearance for a lot of people… condoms just look…weird.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@rangerr Well thank you for attempting to explain that to me. I still am not sure I agree with the sentiment, and in fact think it should be the other way around, but at least I understand where you are coming from.

rangerr's avatar

@RedPowerLady I understand what you’re saying though. It’s dangerous.

They had real sex. Maybe not a lot of intimacy but somehow it seemed more honest

poisonedantidote's avatar

@rangerr i know what you mean, its like fat people paying to see footage of censured cakes.

however, the reason i said no on the condom thing is because enforcing it by deffinition enforces question number 2 also.

faye's avatar

I had a dream that i was a saloon girl in a previous life-shot a cowboy, maybe that was 100 yrs ago! even if they tested for std’s, an infected person could hand it around willy-nilly before symptoms appear.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@faye That’s why testing should occur at regular intervals, many infections will test positive before symptoms appear.

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

I think that the adult industry should be self regulated. Enough of the nanny State and trying to regulate everything under the sun. No one held a gun to the heads of the people that got into the porn industry. It was a choice. Life is about choices. So I answer NO to all the questions asked up there.

chyna's avatar

I agree with zebra. Life is about choices. No there shouldn’t be regulations. But I also think prostitution should be legalized. If the state stepped in, maybe there would be less disease and less deaths.

SeventhSense's avatar

@Psychedelic Zebra
Someone should hold a gun against this sleazeball’s head head
Furthermore “the industry” is rampant with drug abuse, sexually abused teens that run away from home, desperate people who often meet desperate ends and vultures who are happy to pick at their carcasses.

airowDee's avatar

there is something called exploitation, and in many instances, alot of the women did not know exactly what they had to do and the adult industry is pushing the boundaries to do the most degrading acts possible, i think there should be a limit to it.

faye's avatar

Who is that sleazeball?

SeventhSense's avatar

In don’t believe in censorship of any kind except protecting children but I think we should all want to have more self regulation and it’s sad as a society we don’t. Every time I see a young girl of 18. I think of my beautiful niece who easily could have ended up there being addicted to heroin at a young age. And don’t get me wrong there are beautiful and erotic sexual expressions but I don’t think of them as porn.

Do you have something against people that wear superman costumes? Why is he a sleazeball, and why does he deserve to be murdered?

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

Well, this is hard. I think people who are sex workers should have STD checks and condoms and all that but not sure about forcing testing on people. Ideally no one entering that world would be willing to do it without protection and with someone whose health status in terms of STDs they’re not aware of but we don’t live in an ideal world. So, maybe seeing a mandated result could be good. I dont’ know. I go back and forth. This is a terrible answer, I know.

@FutureMemory
He’s a self serving hateful, mean spirited, obese sleazeball that debases humanity by his existence not unlike Larry Flynt.
