How did you and your S/O pick out "your song"?

Asked by stemnyjones (3976points) January 8th, 2010

I’m curious as to how people usually decide what “their song” will be.

How did you and your S/O choose? What is “your song” that represents your love for each other? What is so special about that song?

Me and my lover call Don’t Change by Musiq our song, because the lyrics say how we feel towards eachother…

“I’ll love you when your hair turns gray, and I’ll still want you if you gain a little weight, the way I feel for you will always be the same just as long as your love don’t change. I was meant for you and you were meant for me, and I’ll make sure that I’ll be everything you need. Girl the way we are is how it’s gonna be just as long as your love don’t change”.

“Sure Looks Good to Me” – Alicia Keys.

(When I was finally able to let my guard down and let my girl in).

Life is cheap, bittersweet
But it taste good to me

Take my turn, crash and burn
That’s how it’s supposed to be

So don’t rain on my parade
Life’s too short to waste one day

I’m gonna risk it all, the freedom to fall
Yes it sure looks good to me

Time passed by and leaves you behind
Take it naturslly

Heaven knows (OH) There’s so much more
More than what we see

So don’t rain on my parade
Life’s too short to waste one day

I’m gonna risk it all, the freedom to fall
Yes it sure looks good to me

(HEY) Sure looks good to me

Ooh, ooh, oooo, ooohh
Yea, yea, yeaaaa

Ooh, ooh, oooo, ooohh
Yea, yea, yeaaaa

Deep in my mind Im secure we can buy
I wanna see the light before I die or I lie in an empty space,

The darkness comes and I’ve been telling my soul
And me and myself we turn around, we’re getting old,

But the lightning crashing, foolish emotions
From the bruises and the beauty in this moment that we’re feeling,

And I feel like I’m seeing the world inside of me
But I can tell you that I know, it’s getting easier to breathe,

There’s a cold in the morning, endless equation
Of who’ve we’ve become, it’s a complex situation

So live, love, life give love
Live, love, life, give love
Live, love, life, give love
It’s who are we anyway

So don’t rain on my parade
Life’s too short to waste one day

I’m gonna risk it all, the freedom to fall
Yes it sure looks good to me

(HEY) It sure looks good to me
(I’m telling you) Sure looks good to me

(YEA) Sure looks good to meeee

Meee, yeaaa
Looks good to me, whoo, yea, yea, yeaaa

My previous SO’s and I usually picked up our songs by the first song we danced together to. Which might explain why we’ve always had weird ones, like “Lecher Bitch” and “This Beat is Technotronic”

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Actually, I’m not sure if we have one. But that song started playing at an amusing moment. So I think it qualifies.

Our song is My Funny Valentine. It started to become our song when we saw Tommy Flanagan in concert and my husband sang the words to the song in my ear.

Out of all 32 mix CDs I’ve made so far, #29 is my favorite. It’s the only CD that contains “our song” and every time I listen to all of the songs on that CD, memories of spending this summer (late summer) with my boyfriend are brought back.

Specifically, Track 6, “I’m Like a Lawyer With the Way I’m Always Trying to Get You Off (Me & You)” by Fall Out Boy, is “our song”. I usually just refer to it as “I’m Like a Lawyer…”.

Now, it may sound odd, but we kind of both decided it made us think of one another the most without the other person knowing. I think because he showed the song to me this summer and I became obsessed with it after hearing it, it’s a love song, etc. Specifically the chorus of the song (which only has two lines that are repeated) is the part that has become our “theme song”.

“Me and you, setting in a honeymoon, if I woke up next to you…” That’s all the chorus is, but I really like it.

If you haven’t heard it before, it’s a good song and the music video was filmed in Uganda:

My fiancee and I don’t really have a song, but that’s because we don’t really consciously choose “one song”. There are a lot of songs that we both feel sum up our relationship. I honestly don’t think it’s something you can choose for yourself, it’s something that’s given to you. Like a nickname. Coming up with music for the wedding we’re discovering that we have a great many of songs that are “our song”.

If I had to pick one and only one though, it would be How The Day Sounds by Greg Laswell.

I don’t think we really picked our song, it picked us. Both our favorite band is Nine Inch Nails, and the words to this song fits us like a great pair of Fundies!!

“Were In This Together”

I’ve become impossible
Holding on to when
When everything seemed to matter more
The two of us
All used and beaten up
Watching fate as it flow down the path we
Have chose

You and me
We’re in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you

Awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin
They pick and they pull
Trying to get their fingers in
Well they’ve got to kill what we’ve found
Well they’ve got to hate what we fear
Well they’ve got to make it go away
Well they’ve got to make it disappear

The farther i fall i’m beside you
As lost as i get i will find you
The deeper the wound i’m inside you
For ever and ever i’m a part of

You and me
We’re in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
If the world should break in two
Until the very end of me
Until the very end of you

All that we were is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone we have to hold on
When all our hope is gone we have to hold on
All that we were is gone but we can hold on

You and me
We’re in this together now
None of them can stop us now
We will make it through somehow
You and me
Even after everything
You’re the queen and i’m the king
Nothing else means anything

I had known and liked the EJ/Bernie song “Tiny Dancer” for over 20 years. It fit Meg and she liked it too. “But oh how it feels so real, lying here with no one near: Only you, and I say softly, slowly; Hold me closer tiny dancer; Count the headlights on the highway; Lay me down in sheets of linen; You had a busy day today.” The song was written before she was born.

Sorry, can’t figure out how to put the youtube on here, I’m an idiot.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land Just type open quotes, the word you want to act as the link, close quotes, colon And then the complete url of the You Tube video.

We don’t have an “our song”. We love so much music and each other. That seems to be adequate.

Our song is ‘I will Follow You (Into the Dark)’ by Death Cab for Cutie
I have never heard the song before meeting my love – he wrote its lyrics in a gchat and it just was it, it was perfect, it was our song…the chorus of the song is very important to us, I plan to include it in an arm tattoo…it is also on our certificate of love…get ready, ‘cause this is super cheesy…we obtained the certificate when we put our names down to be etched into the The World of Love Monument…we did this 2 years ago
http://worldmonumentlove.com/565/
the certificate now hangs on the wall

I am not sure if we have an “Our song”, but mostly there’s songs we both like that are about love, and songs that relate to particular moments (like our wedding). Apart from the wedding waltz we have not really “decided” on them, they have just grown on us.
