What do you make with ground turkey?

Asked by SamIAm (8703points) January 11th, 2010

I saw this recipe on Rachel Ray one day, she made turkey burgers stuffed with turkey bacon and cheddar cheese, she also added some mustard and an egg to the ground turkey. They were amazingly good.

I am looking for a creative and delicious recipe to make from this frozen ground turkey I have.

Any favorites?

You can pretty much make anything you can make with ground beef with turkey you just need to adjust the seasonings to make up for difference in flavor and keep an eye on the cooking time as turkey typically doesn’t have nearly as much fat as ground beef.

My favorite is probably a south west turkey burger mixed with chipotle tobasco, raw jalapeno (fresh picked preferably), and fried garlic and onions, and some other seasonings that escape me atm… I can never seem to get enough of it.

One of my favorites is ground turkey and broccoli casserole.

Cook half a pound of rotini pasta. Mix the pasta with browned ground turkey, as much broccoli as you want, a can of cream of potato, and 1½ cups of cheddar cheese. Put all of that in a baking dish, spread another half cup of cheese on the top, and bake at 350 for about 15 or 20 minutes, until the top is kind of crispy. Voila!

Last night I made a chipotle sloppy joes that you coud easily have used ground turkey meat for: ground turkey, bell pepper, chopped chipotle, adobo sauce, cumin, tomato paste and tomato sauce- then served on a hamburger bun… It was really healthy and really good!

Turkey Balls and Spaghetti.

Once you get past the name, its a quite tasty dinner.

Turkey sausage with Italian spices and red pepper flakes. You can make up patties or if you have sausage stuffer make up links. Must keep the meat very cold while stuffing.

I make ground turkey stir fry (almost like a chop suey) with onions, celery, mushrooms, green vegetable of the moment—which might be broccoli, asparagus, green beans, zucchini or a mixture of those—sometimes carrots and water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and bean sprouts. Season with sot sauce.

I make a ground turkey chili.

I use ground turkey in a Mexican casserole seasoned with cumin, green chiles, onions, I layer the bottom with torn pieces of tortilla, then a layer of beans (you can use refried although I prefer whole pinto beans, the ground turkey mixtures and then cover with grated monterey jack cheese. I serve it with gaucamole and sour cream.

Tacos from the Deceptively Delicious book. I was surprised because I am not a fan of some of the other ingredients, but they are fantastic.

Of course, mine don’t look anything like the picture in the link!

Use it in any recipe that calls for ground beef, veal or pork.

It is better for you and you don’t even have to tell those you’re feeding that it isn’t beef! They probably won’t even notice.

Definitely turkey tacos. A friend of mine made them with just ground turkey and the seasoning from a “taco kit.” (I don’t remember the brand name.)
