@HTDC It’s not often that there is any real need to cut loose, but a question like this just begs for a (non-directed) “GOATFUCKING CUMLICKER!” just to get it out of the system.

I’d probably get modded a lot too if cussing were against any rules. I’m glad it’s not. Censorship is bad, needless censorship triply so. And there’s a big difference between casual cussing and actually insulting people.

Yeah, it’s fine as long as it isn’t used to insult people because personal attacks are not allowed.

Sadly though, cussing no longer has any impact, it is too commonplace. There was a kid in diapers (disposable of course) saying fuck. He/she looked too young to be talking and it was a little hard to understand, but there was no mistaking the fuck fuck fuck part. At what age is it considered acceptable to be using cusswords?

Are you really sad about the F-bomb losing its destructive power?

Swear words work because they trigger an involuntary reaction in our brains that releases a negative feeling. This is the impact you lament having lost.
I say getting used to swearing is a good thing. It disarms us. We’re in a place where calling each other names is pretty much the worst we can do to each other, and if we have all grown a carapace that weapon can’t stab through, there’s literally no point in being nasty to each other any more. Warfare with styrofoam swords.
It also disarms trolls.

Unfortunately there are still plenty of ways left for us to piss off each other, with some imagination. I suppose that makes it a good thing that personal attacks are not tolerated.

P.S. Why yes, I do like purple prose.
