If you started with a dollar how soon do you think you could flip it into six figures?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) February 20th, 2010

So you get a buck out, and you buy something and then sell that for two, how long before you think you would have six figures if you just keep reinvesting, and never cannibalizing the profits.

What would you do to find stuff to turn over? Would you settle for fractional gains to keep moving forward or would you save your energy for moments of doubling.

I know one guy flipped a paper clip into a house, but I think it was publicity that did a lot of the work. If you weren’t doing it as a publicity stunt, how long do you think it would take to get to six figures?

I could do it in a day considering I picked the right house.

1.beat up a punk and take their knife
2.go to rich neighborhood
3.break in in the middle of the day
4.knock/bind out wife and kids, put them somewhere secret wait for father to come home from work.
5.ask for 100,000 dollars
6.give back family

A super simplified version of getting cash quick.

Start with buying something at a garage sale with your buck…sell it on e-bay…repeat until you get $10,000. Use $5,000.00 as a down-stroke to buy an as is forclosed property….use the other $5,000 to fix it up then sell the house for a profit of double your upfront investment repeat about 5 more times buying bigger better properties and you easily have your 6 figures. IMO could be done in about 2 years of mind numbing busting your ass work.

Thare are loads of poker stories where people turn a few dollars into many with the right strategy. One of the most famous is Chris Fergusons that turned $1 into $10k (http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/chris-ferguson-challenge). I am sure he could have continued going to make more.

I would love to be able to do something like that, but I am incredibly spewy at really low limits and would probably drive myself insane at playing 100+ hours and only making $10.

assuming you can double your money each transaction you can do it in 17 transactions leaving you with about 130k

If those six figures were all ‘0’ I could do it in about 30 seconds.

I would marry a very old, very rich man and then place the dollar bill over his nose and mouth and smother him. No, actually, I would never do anything like that. I couldn’t turn a dollar bill into at least a hundred thousand dollars in any amount of time. If I could, I would have already. But I could turn a dollar bill into to a bag of peanut M&Ms in about 15 seconds, if that counts.

@lillycoyote Except those peanut M&Ms won’t last another 15 seconds after their state change.
