What is your favorite sandwich from someplace other than your kitchen?

Asked by TheLoneMonk (2897points) February 24th, 2010

What makes it your favorite? Have you tried to make it in your home but you just can’t replicate it? Where can we find this sandwich?

I ask this because today I had an intense desire for my favorite sandwich, a Cuban from Carmine’s in Ybor City. The bread is perfectly crisp. The meats tender and juicy. The cheese melted and creamy. The pickles crunchy and salty. Ahhh…the perfect sandwich. I’ve tried to replicate this sandwich going so far as to find a Cuban bread baker in Ybor and having her send me bread overnight. It just a’int happening.

So, what is your favorites sandwich and where can we find it????

There’s an Italian deli and pizza place in town that makes an incredible chicken cutlet sandwich. I don’t know what kind of bread they use, but it’s amazing. The chicken is lightly breaded and very crispy, but not greasy. It also has fresh mozzarella cheese, basil, tomatoes, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Oh, perfection. Just thinking about it is making me hungry. Plus, the sandwich is so huge that I always save half of it for lunch the next day. It heats up great in the oven.

I always get the same thing at Subway, it’s delicious (in my opinion). It consists of:

Untoasted italian bread, white american cheese, roast beef, lettuce, onions, green peppers, and bacon.

That is the only sandwich I ever order from there, or anywhere, for that matter, and it’s always really delicious, something I couldn’t replicate at home.

@FutureMemory Ohh I’ve been there. But I like the yatagan kebab house better

sounds incredible Miss A. Where is this place??

Madison, CT. We’re about 20 minutes from New Haven, right on Long Island Sound. The restaurant is called Bradley and Wall, but they don’t have a website for me to link to.

A Bahn Mi sandwich from a secret location in Falls Church, VA or Fairfax, VA. There’s an intense debate about which Vietnamese sandwich place is best. It’s a fresh, crusty baguette with a variety of toppings like pate, ham, chicken-pork sausage, cilantro, hot peppers, onions, carrots, and fish sauce. This sandwich has a very distinctive, spicy, zingy and savory taste that you just can’t replicate at home. I get random cravings for them all the time.

A gyro from little street corner cafe in Thira, Santorini, with the sun and the smells, a little wine, mmm. Definitely doesn’t work in my kitchen.

The Ruben is my most favorite sandwich in the world. I’ve never meet one I didn’t like. I never make them at home though because no one else likes them and I don’t want to buy a whole loaf of rye. I do make Ruben dogs sometimes, but it’s just not the same.

Any sandwich that isn’t from my kitchen is like a dream come true.I’ll take a Reuben :)

Cuban Panini from just about anywhere decent.

::sigh:: I haven’t had it in 16 years: A ham and turkey club sub with provolone from Cousins in Milwaukee. My favourite location was the one on the northeast corner of Locust Street and Oakland Avenue. I haven’t had a sub in NYC yet that I thought tasted as good.

And the other, a pastrami and corned beef on rye from Jake’s Delicatessen on 17th Street and North Avenue, also in Milwaukee. But perhaps that’s more because I was poor enough at the time that a sandwich from Jake’s was a once-a-year treat, if that often. I’ve had Katz’s and 2nd Avenue Deli and all sorts of pastrami/corned beef on ryes since, but not like Jake’s.

TheLoneMonk's avatar

@april: I’m pleased to report that Jake’s and Cousin’s are still both there. Jake’s pastrami is out of this world and I’m partial to Cousin’s BLT sub.

A buffalo chicken sandwich with pepper Jack cheese and extra buffalo sauce.

From Which Which.

Pastrami on Rye, from Katz’s Deli in NYC. At first, I thought it was going to be all hype, but the pastrami is out of this world.

Any fat and greasy BLT from some filthy truck stop will do for me.

I’m easy.

faye's avatar

Yeah, I have to add, most cheeseburgers please me.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Oh, @faye.

Just you wait ‘til you have one at Corner Bistro in the West Village of NYC. Just. You. Wait.

faye's avatar

Good, are they @aprilsimnel? I’ll write that down in my bucket list!

We are where the Bible belt snaps and stings at the end. Rarely is political correctness a consideration. It’s really yummy though.

partyparty's avatar

@Kelci33 OK so what is buffalo chicken? What is pepper Jack cheese and what is buffalo sauce? It sounds really interesting!!

LunaChick's avatar

@partyparty – The following links will help you understand what Pepper Jack Cheese and Buffalo Sauce are.

partyparty's avatar

@LunaChick Ah yes, I have just looked at what they are. The cheese has peppers in them. We can get this in the UK. But the buffalo sauce I have never seen before. I assume that also contains peppers as it is hot. Sounds scrumptious. You can get such a variety of food in the USA. I am envious… in the nicest possible way. Many thanks.

@partyparty, that’s also why we’re so fat!
