Am I the only one who can't stand to not have their feet covered when sleeping?

Asked by X_Peace_Love_Freedom_X (86points) July 30th, 2010

When I am laying down, getting ready to sleep, I can’t have my feet uncovered. I either need to have my feet covered by a blanket or put socks on. Even when I’m laying on the couch, I’ll have my feet hanging over the edge, after a while I’ll have to do something. Am I just paranoid?

I usually have my feet out – I use them to thermoregulate. But they can’t be hanging over the edge, ‘cause then the creatures under the bed can grab them. I absolutely cannot sleep with socks on.

But I do have to have a sheet over my hips and torso, even in the hottest weather.

I used to do that. It doesn’t bother me anymore, though. I also needed to have something over my body. Even a sheet, during the hot summer months. But I’m over that, too.

It drive me insane to have my feet sticking out! : (

Like @syz I have to have a sheet over my hips and torso at all times. I like my feet under cover at first then out from under the cover later as it seems to regulate my body temperature. Weird.

I can’t sleep with socks on. I cannot sleep with dirty feet.

There have been many nights where I skipped a shower before bed, but still had to hose my feet off in the bathroom sink.

When in bed, I usually have one leg in and one leg out of the covers. I don’t mind the sheet itself touching my feet, but nothing else can.

I’m sure you’re not alone, but I’m the exact opposite. I don’t wear socks, and I will actually stick my feet out from under the covers even if the rest of me is covered. <shrug> To each his/her own.

I don’t have to have my feet covered but I can’t ever have one of them hanging over the edge of the bed. I can’t risk having the monster under the bed grabbing one of my feet, can I. But, for some reason I do have to have my “exposed ear covered.” Don’t ask me why, I don’t know. I sleep on my stomach/side and will turn from one side to the other over the course of the night. I just have to have the non-pillow ear/side of my head covered with either a pillow or with the blanket. I can’t sleep any unless I do have the side of my head covered.

When I was little, I thought if my feet stuck out, something would come in the night and bite them off. I still have my feet, but I still can’t fall asleep with my them completely uncovered (unless it’s very, very hot in the room). Thanks, @X_Peace_Love_Freedom_X, for giving me a chance to confess that. That’s some feat.

I am a hot sleeper, i actually can’t stand having socks on when I go to bed and i like to stick my feet out of the covers to help me mantain the temperature of my body if i get very hot :)

@Austinlad

Don’t feel bad – I still can’t sleep without the closet door locked. ^_^

I’m with @mrentropy

No neurotic sleep hangups here.

Covers, no covers, dependent on temps.

I DO put an extra pillow over my face and make a sort of pillow tent against my headboard on bright sunrises which shine through my windows on summer mornings. lol

No you’re not paranoid unless you don’t like your feet out because you’re afraid someone is going to grab them.
I am exactly the opposite. I hate having my feet under the covers unless it’s really cold. I can’t even tuck my sheets in because I will just kick them off so my feet can breath. I also hate wearing shoes. As soon as the frost melts from ground I am wearing sandals.

I have to have the lightest sheet over my feet, or I feel like I am tied to my bed. I often wake up with my feet sticking out over the side of the bed.

RocketGuy's avatar

I use my feet to get rid of excess heat, so I usually need them to be uncovered.

Brenna_o's avatar

I am the same way! I have to alwys have socks on, and my my feet covered lol. Even in summer time they have to be covered even if its just my feet under covers… Haha

downtide's avatar

Not just feet but all of me. I can’t sleep if I don’t have some sort of covering over me. Even if it’s just a single sheet, it has to be something otherwise I’ll be woken by draughts (real or imaginary) in the middle of the night.

I have to have mine covered too. It’s a protective shield against monsters under the bed. ;)

I’m slowly, very slowly getting over this, but for the most part when my feet are out, I imagine creepy crawlies getting their spindly legs on my feet so I prefer to have them covered. I blame all of those ghost stories when I was a kid.

Sleeping feet are not safe in my space now that I have two new young cats! lol

MrsDufresne's avatar

I do the exact same thing. My feet get cold very easily, and Ineed a blanket and/or socks to take the chill away. For me, warm feet=true relaxation.

My wife can’t stand having her feet covered, while I prefer to have mine covered.
