(NSFW) Is there a word for the dark brown flesh that many of us have surrounding our anus?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) August 16th, 2010

The subject of skin bleaching came up on TV yesterday, and it sent me to Google for information on it. Among the links returned, I stumbled across a one to a Q&A site where someone was asking how she could bleach the “stain” away from her anal area. I do not think it’s a stain. As far as I know, it’s just a darker area of flesh and is quite normal, particularly for people with a fair amount of pigment in their skin. I certainly don’t see it as something that needs bleaching.

But I was struck by the discussion. While everyone knew what she was talking about, and a few mentioned that high-end spas do offer such bleaching and that some porn stars have had it done, nobody seemed to have a word for this body feature.

Am I right that it is normal pigmentation and not a stain? Just about every other conceivable body feature in humanity has a name. Does this one too? Have I led such a sheltered life that it just escaped me? Or is it so taboo that we can’t even have a word to use in discussing it?

LOL! I am not aware of any term for it, sorry. Maybe the annular ring like you mentioned?

I truly don’t know the answer to this, but, I’m guessing that it’s pigmentation.

Why would anyone want to bleach it? I mean, c’mon!

@Blackberry Thanks. @jjmah It’s right up there with bleaching my eyelashes on things I would rather jump into a volcano than do.

Its your bung hole or Anal Sphincter.

Or just Anus.

@ChazMaz Actually, I found out the other day that a bunghole is the hole a casket goes into lol….

CMaz's avatar

That is one definition. :-)

I have been thinking about anal bleaching as well. Some of the chemicals they use are poisonous. and wet wipes keeps your brownness from graduating to darkness.

I heard it on the Kardashians, of course. I never look too deep at bungholes, so I never see how dark they are.

I would call it the south-aureola.

@ChazMaz I think bunghole is just a euphemism we often apply to the area in general, not to the discoloration. Bunghole originally referred to a hole bored in a wooden cask, as in a wine cask, as well as the valve inserted into that bore hole.

@Blackberry I imagine that the same is true to referring to a burial hole as a bunghole. Another euphemism for a topic we find disquieting when discussed in blunt language.

@jazmina88 Perhaps the topic making it onto reality TV got it onto the national radar and hence into social Q&A discussion.

@rebbel That makes good sense. I like that.

WebMD says it’s pigmentation

@syz Thanks. At least we have an authoritative answer to that part of the question.

Was that on Answerbag? I seem to remember that question… though I don’t remember what my response was.

Ahhh, that’ll be the rings around Uranus. Similar to those around Saturn only smaller.

I did a documentary on Cattle Slaughter.

When removing the “dark brown flesh area” of the Cows Anus. In order to detach the intestinal tract. The technical term was “rimming the bung.”

I.E. Bung Hole.

@deni Lol!...........I can picture you in a library saying that extremely loud…...

@Seek_Kolinahr Yes it did show up there, but the first link I hit went to a porn discussion group. Apparently one of the female members, aware that some porn actresses opted for anal bleaching, though she needed to remove her “stain.” I found the whole thing rather sad.

@ucme Ha! Great answer. Smaller perhaps. Certainly less often seen.

@ChazMaz One more reason to be thankful I am not a bovine.
