Why are my feet growing?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) August 31st, 2010

47 years old 5’10” at 170lbs. I’ve worn a size 9.5 shoe since high school. But within the past year or two, my feet have been growing. I didn’t believe it at first, but none of my old shoes fit any longer, and I have dozens of old shoes.

Went to a size 10, then 10.5, 11… And I just bought a new pair because those are too tight now. The new shoes are 12’s! WTF?

Yes the 12’s are just a bit too long, but they are extra wide and still feel tight.

Why are my feet growing at this time of my life?

I know my sister’s feet grew pretty dramatically during her pregnancy, but that certainly doesn’t seem to be your issue. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

Are your ankles swelling?

You haven’t been wearing your boots when wading into some of your fluther responses?

@Adirondackwannabe No swelling ankles.

But I did break my ankle/heel about 8 years ago. Some believe it is the current source of my back/neck aches.

@RealEyesRealizeRealLies Good. Fluid retention in the ankles is a sign of heart concerns. I think I read somewhere your feet tend to get slightly larger with age.

Ah, clearly what we have here is a case of clown virus in its early stages. Have you noticed a change in your feelings towards small cars and horns? Maybe you’ve felt the urge to throw small pieces of paper over people from a bucket? Have you noticed a chage in your behaviour around cream pies? You may also find that your nose starts to become more round and red too.

Refrain from standing in puddles, would be my sage advice.

You didn’t take feeagra?
People’s noses and ears tend to grow larger too when they age.
Could it be that the same goes for feet after a certain age (47)?

Have you gained weight? If you gain weight the feet take the brunt of that when you stand up.

You haven’t put your new shoes side-by-side with the old ones, have you? I wonder if they’re making shoes smaller but using the same size number.

@JilltheTooth, always a pleasure to make you G&G. I usually get only one of those G’s at the office.
