Do you ever rate questions great because you don't know the answer?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) October 23rd, 2010

I see some questions that I have no clue how to answer, but I am interested in knowing what the answer is. I’ll click to such a question. If there’s a great answer there, then I give both the question and the good answers Lurve. If it hasn’t gotten a good answer, I will give the question Lurve and click to follow it hoping it does get an answer or two.

How about you. Are you that curious, or do you just stick to questions you personally can answer? If you do go to a question you can’t answer, do you give Lurve?

I have to be curious about the question, but yes, I do sometimes follow one without contributing.

The reason I am here is for the questions I don’t know the answer too. I’m here to learn and share what I have learned. There have been tons of questions where I thought, “I always wondered about that.”

This is a good example. I never noticed it but it was a fun thing to learn about. I gave that a GQ.

I follow a lot of questions that I haven’t answered. Some because I like the question and I want to know the answer and others because the discussion in the answers is interesting.
As far as GQs go, I give them to a wide variety of questions. Some because I like the question and I don’t know the answers, others because the question was very thought provoking, and others just because they’re fun. There’s probably other reasons as well.

All the time, it’s one of the most fun bits of fluthering.

I look at questions that interest me, whether or not I can answer them.

There’s something odd about this whole question and answer thing. I rarely ask questions that have one answer. I get the feeling that most people think of this place as a place where they can come to get one answer and that is the answer.

I’m generally not interested in questions that are seeking one answer. As a result, I don’t feel like I actually answer any questions, since my answers are just stories, really. Reflections or opinions sometimes. These things are perhaps answers in name, but they aren’t really answers in intent.

Ok. So that was random. Like I said. I don’t do answers.

Yes, of course.

I rated this one great because I don’t know the answer.

Not just because I didn’t know the answer, but also if I have wondered the same thing and didn’t think to ask.

@hawaii_jake, @Seaofclouds, @Neizvestnaya, @janbb, @weeveeship, & @YARNLADY Thanks. Same here.

@johnpowell Neat link. I didn’t know that answer either.

@wundayatta That’s most of my answers too. But I will answer questions that have a simple answer if I happen to know it and I know it would be difficult to just Google for it.

Absolutely! A question that piques my curiosity gets a GQ mark, and I’ll follow it whether I have anything to contribute or not. If it holds interest, it gets followed and GA marks are given if I agree with them. It’s not only a great way to learn, but to identify with feelings and beliefs that are the same as my own and view them in written word.

@Pied_Pfeffer Thanks. Well said.

I do, for the same reasons others have given.

BoBo1946's avatar

Yes, I’ve done this for all reasons already given also.

@augustlan & @BoBo1946 Thanks. Makes great sense. I asked when I caught myself doing it, and wondered how many others do the same. Looks like I’m in good company. :-)
