Somewhat, and yes.

I think it’s more out of fashion, or considered old-fashioned, than unusual.

How else would you spell it?

DominicX's avatar

It’s kind of old-fashioned-sounding. And yes, it’s spelled like that. “Felix” is a direct Latin word meaning “happy”.

I’ve only known of two: Felix Unger on the Odd Couple and Felix the cat, a cartoon. Both spelled the way you have spelled it.

Felix is commonly associated with Felix the Cat, but it is a name I like very much. It’s a male name, right?

In a similar way, Clover is often associated with cows, but I adore the name Clover for a girl…

Yeah, language is messed up.
I think it’ll do!

Felix might be uncommon in some cultures but not in others. It’s a more commonly used name in Hispanic cultures…just as Nelson is.

Damn, now both my main characters are cartoons…. Well I like Felix more than Donald so I guess I’ll need a differen Don.

@erichw1504 There’s always another way to spell things in English. Pheelicks, for example…

According to this place, Felix was a popular name in Germany from 2003 to 2005.

And +1 for Felix Unger.

As if that wasn’t enough, this site (which has an annoying ad) says that a Felix Adler was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame in 1989.

Felix is a very common first name for men (#259 out of 1220)
It is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Felix is “happy, fortunate”. Biblical: Roman procurator of Judea during Paul’s time, a wily politician. The name of three popes and numerous saints. Feliciano is a Spanish and Italian form. Linked in America with cartoon character Felix the Cat, and Felix Unger from “The Odd Couple”. American physicist Felix Bloch.

It’s a bit old-fashioned and usually thought of as a cat’s name, but I have a friend called Felix (he’s in his late 50s, if that’s at all significant).

I have a French Canadian friend named Félix. He’s in his early 20s.

A wonderful, wonderful cat.

Felix is relatively common in Germany.

I’m in Mexico for now and Felix is a very common name. It sounds pretty good in Spanish. I didn’t think of a cat when I read the question. I thought of one of the engineers down here.

@Ron_C Everything sounds good in Spanish.

Zyx's avatar

@crazyivan That’s sort of true. Most of the Spanish I know is from Ill Niño (a band), and that band also has some of the most beautiful lyrics I’ve ever heard.

6rant6's avatar

Felix, el Gato.

Ron_C's avatar

@6rant6 see even Felix the Cat sounds better in Spanish.

We actually named our cat “El Gato En Botas” or something like that.
