I love the sound of leaves crunching in the fall. I walked through a whole pile of them on the sidewalk outside my apartment.

I love the little muffled woofs my dogs make when dreaming and the contented sounds they make when I pet them.

I hate sirens. They make me anxious.

I like the sound of large groups of terrified people screaming and running away, unlike you, I do like cars and aircraft, but it cant be just any old car, it needs to be a powerful one, and I only really like aircraft sounds on take off. I like the sound of rain outside, and howling wind, and thunder too. I also like annoying beeps and other annoying sounds, not so much for how they sound, but just because they are annoying.

I dislike the sound of roller blades going over rough tiles, and I totally hate the sound of smoke alarms, mainly because it means I hate to stand there like a moron waving a towel at it instead of making my toast.

@poisonedantidote I love the sound of thunder and rain also. Why do you like the sound of a group of terrified people? Just the way it sounds or because they’re scared? Just wondering?

I LOVE the sound of those little styrofoam chips when you drop them on a desk, small clinky sounds, rain, snow, leaves, piano, and the voices of people i like.

I hate the sound of screaming children UGH, this one girl names delaney in my class (biggest bit*** prep EVER), and LOUD things. argh.

I love the sounds of my farts. There is a certain satisfaction that comes with a loud beefy trumpet sounding fart. FRAAAUUUMP!

I like the sound of rolling thunder in the distance, fireworks, and the staccato of hundreds of gunshots in the first minute of the first day of duck season.

Each hunter waits for the exact second to begin. One year, I started the fusillade about 10 minutes early by walking out back and firing my LCP into the ground. Within seconds, shots were flying from all around.
I Loved it!
Saturday was opening day of shotgun deer season – not as many shots as duck season but still quite impressive.

I like the sounds my pillows make when I fluff them up. It’s all like, fwoomp fwoomp fwoomp fa-fwoomp!

I enjoy the sound of waves crashing at the beach, rain landing on the roof, strong winds, and gentle breezes. To me, they are the most relaxing of sounds.

I love standing outside during a snowstorm. It’s usually very quiet and you can hear the snow hitting the trees. This is my favorite.

I also love foghorns. There is something mysterious about them that I love.

I love the wind sounds, stormy, blowing tree branches, gentle swooshes, blowing rain against my window or just howling around. Screaming , children or adults, is the worst. Is it because we’re hard wired to help when we hear screaming?

I love powerful sounds.

Thunder, gunshots, fireworks, roaring fires, machinery running, engines revving…

I got a huge rush not too long ago when a very low-flying fighter jet flew over my head as I stood in a parking lot.

Of course I love the gentler sounds of the world… girls humming softly while crocheting, kittens purring, and so on, but there is something about the powerful sounds of violent nature or the cacophony of human machines that just gets my blood pumping.

I have a love-hate relationship with sounds. When I was a kid, sound in general got on my nerves. If there was too much noise in the room then I would pitch a fit. Now I see things the way Cassie does: “I hate dripping taps… but I also sort of love dripping taps.”

I am capable of being completely in love with the sound of chalk against the board, beads shifting inside a bean bag, crickets chirping, rolling thunder and stormy rain, ice clinking while suspended in a glass of liquid, cracking my knuckles, breaths through a harmonica, pages turning, laughter (all kinds: shrieks, guffaws, titters, chuckles, giggles…), goats bleating. . . but there are also occasions when these same sounds could drive me up the wall and I would gladly hit the mute button if I could.

Even my favourite sound has conditions. I love listening to hearts beating. It’s such a beautiful sound. I’m not very tall, so when I hug people I can press my ear to their chest and listening to their heart beating. It’s wonderful. But I can hear, and feel, my own heart beating and it makes my skin crawl.

@Kardamom Your descriptions remind me of the Froggy book collection. Are you familiar with them? I can imagine you reading them to a classroom of 1st graders.

I like the sound of horse hooves clanking against a paved road. I dislike the sound of people screaming at eachother.

I like the crunch of snow on an early spring day… You know, when it’s snowed overnight, then the sun has melted it a little so that there’s that fine layer of ice on top. I love being the first to crunch through it!

I love the sound of waves outside my window as a sleep, the wind whooshing through tree tops, chirping of birds, rain falling on the rooftops, and the sound of silence.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I would love the sound of a Dixieland jazz band at the foot of my bed every morning ;)

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@Cruiser ah the sweet sound of silence. No better sound in the world!

Waves crashing and water lapping against the beach
My daughters’ delighted laughter
The dishwasher running (in all seriousness, I promise)
Thunder rumbling loudly
Cats purring
My 4 year old’s feet pitter pattering on the kitchen floor
My name on my husband’s lips

Seelix's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate – I always liked the sound of the dishwasher running too. It’s relaxing. What I wouldn’t give to hear that sound now… Someday I’ll have a dishwasher… Someday.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate I thought I was the only one who liked the sound of the dishwasher.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Seelix and @daytonamisticrip It’s running right now, and it’s actually soothing my headache. That constant whoosh whoosh whoosh of the water moving around relaxes me.

daytonamisticrip's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate the magical power of the dishwasher!

I like the sound of a vacuum cleaner running. I find it to be a very soothing noise. :)

faye's avatar

I also like the sound of nothing when I’m in an elevator or on hold or in a waiting room.

TexasDude's avatar

Oh yeah, almost forgot, the far-off hum of lawnmowers is really nostalgic for me for some reason.

helkie's avatar

The pouring rain. It sounds beautiful and its very earthy.

Eggie's avatar

The sound of the sea in the morning.
