What's one of the best presents you ever got for someone?
Yesterday was Rick’s birthday (bummer to have a birthday so close to Christmas!) I’m just shocked at the sheer amount of money we’ve spent since last Friday and was having a difficult time considering spending any more (besides…he never gets me anything for my birthday!).....but three days ago a box up on the shelf of our bedroom closet caught my eye for some reason (It’s only been there for 8 years…) I pulled it down…and found old memorabilia of Rick’s. Most of it was kind of junky, but there was a KC Chief’s coffee mug WITH purple on it (K-State girl here) and a small photo album with pictures of the big cats he used to have in it. He loved having those cats. Some times that’s all he’ll talk about, although he does agree with me now that having cougars and tigers as house pets just doesn’t really work out for anyone.
Well, I wrapped up the coffee mug and the photo album and gave them to him. When he was ready to open his presents I told him he had to open “this one” (the mug) first. He did. He thought it was nice….but there wasn’t a glimmer of recognition! I thought, “This is gonna be good!”
Then he unwrapped the photo album….again no recognition of the cover, just a puzzled look because it’s obviously old…then he opened it. It was SO COOL to see the amazement and wonder begin to cross over his face!

Mmm, pretty much anything I give my sister. I’m kinda a savant when it comes to giving her presents (I also have a tendency to spoil her). When she went away to college, I gave her a gift basket with things like 4 different kinds of tape, rechargeable batteries with a rechargeable station, a first aid kit (more complete than any pre-made kit, too), a flask, extra towels/sheets/towel-dress, ear plugs, playing cards, etc. In a couple days, she’s getting a ball-tip whisk, which she’s been hinting at for over a year now.
And one year, I managed to give my cousin the one book she’d been eying for months (I had no idea, it just seemed like her) and give my uncle a book of oxymorons called Jumbo Shrimp – he has a Leslie Nelson sense of humor, so it was right up his alley.

@Dutchess_III Like this. They’re great for sauces and gravies, because they get all the motion of a whisk without clumping up at the end.

The best gift I ever gave was to my daughter on her 21st B-day, went all out and took her for a surprise 3 hours hot air balloon tour & champagne brunch in the sky! Freakin’ AMAZING..we both had the time of our lives!
We were completely s—t faced by 8 a.m. Talk about a high! lol
I had a hand in bestowing on my kids the gift of life. Cheesy smile at camera!

I made my boyfriend a watermelon yarmulke for Christmas (/Chanukah) this year….he hasn’t opened it yet but I am so excited for him to see it. He lost his years ago and I know it’s small but it’s homemade and so fuckin cute. And he misses being a good Jew so hopefully this will inspire him.
I made my parents a really large collage of some amazing photos we all took in Yosemite a few years ago. It came out really well and they loved it. I think my mom cried a little.
This year, I am completely broke and can’t buy much for anyone.
I really wanted to buy @bob_ a sandwich, but a flash of the boobies over a much needed Skyping session will hafta do..
I guess I’ll do the same for @lucillelucillelucille.

Two years ago for Father’s Day, I made both my dad and my father-in-law a scrapbook filled with pictures of them with my little girls. They both really dote on my daughters, so I figured they’d like that. Surprisingly, it managed to make them both misty-eyed.

@Dutchess_III Now I have to go back and think of all the gifts I gave and if any of them ever expressed if it was the best gift they got. I am sure each of them would think there was one gift that was tops.
