Has anyone heard that director, Steven Soderbergh, is retiring?

Asked by dkranzberg (534points) January 13th, 2011

Mr. Soderbergh is an amazing film producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, editor, etc. I heard from a friend recently that Mr. Soderbergh was tired of making films and will retire after he finishes what he’s already agreed to do.

Can anyone verify this rumor?

If so, has anyone heard what he will do? I can’t imagine such a creative, energetic mind just retiring.

directors never really retire, they just change the scope of their projects ;)

Here’s another article about it.

He is such an intense director, i guess he’s burnt out, directing is a pretty stressful occupation. So many practical and artistic demands in making a movie, unless of course it features Stephen Seagal..

He was planning to make “MoneyBall” with Brad Pitt, but the producers took the film away from him.
That kind of thing can sour you on making more movies.
I am hoping he changes his mind. I like a lot of his stuff.

He is also filming Contagion currently and it’s going to be shooting in SF in February,
