Do these remedies really help lessen the pain when waxing ?

Asked by ladyv900 (713points) January 19th, 2011

Rubbing ice with a cloth on the skin like the legs till it gets numb.
Putting baby powder and fisting it. The second remedy sounds dumb to me and the first remedy sound like it works to me since I used that ice method when I pluck my eyebrows, I didn’t feel a thing in my opinion.

Hi – I don’t do to much waxing.. I wax my eye brows but thats it. I can tell you that the baby power works great for shaving especially for that irritation.

Fisting it? Baby powder applied before waxing works because it prevents the wax from adhering to your skin and ripping off the top layer.

I think the opposite works. First of all if you apply ice you tighten your skin that is holding the hair in so it will probably break off instead of pull out.
Wash your legs in warm water to open the pores. Then wax. Immediately after you pull the strip, apply pressure to the spot till the count of ten. This will help prevent some of the irritation.
When done completely remove all wax and apply some witch hazel to further releave any redness. Then apply some lotion. They sell lotions in stores like Sally’s that help soothe the skin for after waxing.

Legs hurt anyway. They are even worse than bikini. I only suffer leg waxing if I’m going on a long tropical vacation.

I take 2 Advil prior to waxing and avoid being waxed when I have PMS. That works for me.
