What can I do this coming Tuesday in downtown San Francisco?

Asked by Neurotic_David (2198points) February 22nd, 2011

I’m flying-in to San Francisco Monday afternoon, and staying at the hotels by the Moscone Convention Center. I have Monday evening and all of Tuesday to myself before the convention gets going for me on Wednesday. Can you please recommend:

- a good (but not dressy!) italian restaurant for lunch and/or dinner that’s walkable from the convention center area

- something to do on Tuesday that’s walkable from the convention center area

Thank you, San Franciscan jellyfish! :)

[copy/pasting] You’re right next to the Museum of Modern Art which is worth seeing. Also you’re pretty close to the Ferry Building which is cool, and right on the water. On Tuesdays there’s a Farmer’s Market there. And I hear a pretty cool accordion player plays there :)

Why are you stuck with walking?

On Tuesday I would go to Golden Gate Park.

If you want Italian food, you should go to North Beach, but I could also recommend Dim Sum.

Walk to the trolley and take a ride down to Fisherman’s wharf.
A visit to SF is not complete until you go to the Ghirardelli chocolate factory.

Ask the motel’s concierge about the Italian dining. Some of the motels have discount dining available with some restaurants.

It’s a ways but not bad to go to Caffe Delucchi in North Beach at Columbus and Green Foods great, moderate prices, great list of Italian wines.

Going to the MoMA is a great idea. Be sure to have some Blue Bottle coffee in their cafe, or ask the concierge where to get some close by (they’re also at the Ferry Building).
