Do peeps have different flavors?

Asked by nir17 (371points) March 9th, 2011

I always thought that different colored peeps tasted the same, but now I’m starting to doubt myself. I’ve found the pink ones to have a bitter aftertaste, and the orange ones to just taste funny. Is this just a psychological phenomena (like thinking that different colored m&m’s taste differently) or is there a real explanation? Perhaps the food coloring causes a taste? Or is it intentional?

What are peeps? I’ve never heard of them

The pink Peeps taste bitter to me too. I think it is the food coloring.
I like the yellow ones best, less chemical color taste.

@stardust, Peeps are marshmallow candies.

The different colored Peeps are not meant to have different flavors. That could just be caused by the coloring.

Ha, ha, when I read this I thought it said “Do people have different flavors?”!

Yup, it’s just the food coloring. Think of what red frosting tastes like, kind of bitter and in my mind, quite nasty.

Chocolate covered peeps are quite yummy.

They also make chocolate flavoured bunny Peeps. They’re gross.

I think I had vanilla flavored peeps once, but i am not sure. I love peeps.

According to peeps world there is a chocolate mousse flavored bunny available this year.

According to me: I have a cat that loves peeps. He is living with cancer, so we humor him and him in return to us by buying him things he likes. I can tell you that in the past they have had vanilla & strawberry.

@SpatzieLover

Awww, sweet. Does he eat the peeps or play with them? I would think they would be fun toys.

@crisw He does both. We think he likes that they get a little crunchy on the outside. He seems to like them after they’ve been out of the pack for a few hours or a day later. He licks to bite off tiny bits, then clasps one in his paws and licks it. So cute. The other cats like to bat them around and carry them in their mouths.

It’s not like we just one day went & bought him peeps BTW. I should’ve set that up in my last post but it was late when I typed that last night.

Pre having my son, we used to set up our dining room for every holiday. You know, bring out pretty colored glass dishes, have a nice center piece…then for each holiday/season we’d put out a colorful candy in dishes. As peeps became popular again, they began introducing the varieties for each holiday (hearts/shamrocks/snowmen/gingerbread men/etc) so we’d buy packs and set a peep on each plate.

Low and behold, one day we noticed bite marks on the peeps…and our cats are not the type to go on tables/counters-etc. We instantly wondered which cat it was. Then, the next holiday rolled around without us knowing. We’d brought in the groceries with the peeps in the bag yet, and here was our Tigger trying to get them out of the grocery bag himself. Mystery solved.

Now we just buy some for Tig-Tig to have all to himself.
