the worst would probably be their imperialistic ways. the best would probably be their scientific research.

From an outsider’s perspective…...

Best: There is something twistedly funny about the notion that if I lived in Texas I could carry a complete set of pink-essentials: lip gloss, camera, phone, iPod and gun

Worst: The high-and-mighty thingy…..basically, watch Team America and you know what I mean.

I would have to say that the best part of American culture is the firm belief in the “American Dream” – if you work hard enough and want badly enough, you really can have or do anything.

The worst part of American culture is our total ignorance and unwillingness to learn about and respect other cultures/nations. Really, for being one of the biggest “melting pots” in the world, so many of us remain astonishingly (and, to me, embarrasingly) ignorant of other cultures and countries….

Another observation (from an outsider):
It’s hard for other nations to appreciate American culture because so few take ownership for it…..what I mean is the idea of Americans being ‘Irish’, ‘Italian’, ‘Dutch’ or something else, when in fact it was their grandparents that were ex-patriots of those countries…..if Americans don’t embrace and own their culture, it is hard for the rest of us to appreciate and respect it as an actual culture.

Best—the idea on which the USA was founded. That is, every person is equal under the law—that no individual is appointed by God to rule over another. Rather, all people are sovereign and have a natural right to individual liberty.

Worst—that far too many Americans no longer believe this, or actively fear this idea.

Enterprise, having a dream isn’t a bad thing, even though you may have to work your arse off to get there, that natural talent isn’t everything.

That after having worked off your arse to get there, you wonder if it was all worth it.
