Genova. It’s beautiful and full of surprises. It’s also not very touristy and not full of stuck up people, so I’m choosing it over Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan.

Let’s narrow this right down, Lombardy + Milan = Lake Como. That’s where I want to be.

Although it’s redundant this was my answer before i came therefore;
I have to say Florence.
Different folks have told me it was beautiful.
I would suggest contacting Perello tours.com passed on from Father to son in the N.Y.C. area & I’m no relation.
With the number of local Italian families, they wouldn’t have made it in business for decades if they didn’t advise you decently.
Luckily many tapes and D.V.D’s are also available from libraries.

Rome – many of them are beautiful but Rome has layers and layers of history and meaning. It was one of the most exciting cities I’ve ever been in.

This question might be impossible, because so many cities in Italy are so fantastic.

Do you want city? Country? Art? Vatican? Lakes?

I agree Florence is a wonderful city full of art and easy to walk around.

Venice is interesting with the water all around, but it feels very touristy also. I enjoyed though.

Rome, more cosmopolitan, and of course the Vatican.

I have not been to Milan, but it would be big city like NY, Montrael, Tokyo, I would assume.

Lake Cuomo, so many…

Benevento, although it’s a town rather than a city.

@Hibernate – Sorry, gotta say – the city is actually called Udine. I have some friends who live there, and it’s very much a student town as the university has a few exchange programs.

Florence is amazing and blew my mind.
Rome is breathtaking – there’s history around every corner.
Venice is also pretty remarkable – there’s the whole fact that the city is a series of islands to admire, plus the nearby Murano where they have gorgeous glass.

My first choice would be Florence, because there’s just so much there (and I’m a sucker for Renaissance art/literature), but it is a little touristy in the sightseeing areas.
So I’d choose either Siena (a medieval town in Tuscany) or Orvieto, a town in Umbria. Both are very cobblestone-y and oh-so-Italian feeling.
Assisi is also pretty amazing in that it makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, and there’s the Basilica di San Francesco with some pretty superb frescoes.

Okay, so I’d go anywhere in Italy. Except Napoli – I didn’t like it there. It felt too much like Toronto, and so too much like home.

Our ten day vacation in Italy was full of driving and seeing the cities and beautiful countryside. We sampled many. many, many vineyards.

All were great cities and great people that welcomed us.

My choice would be Rome and the Vatican.

Mama Me Aw! What a country.

There was so much I loved in Italy but I would sy the single most thrilling site for me was the Coliseum in Rome.

This one because it is where half of my ancestors come from.

Rome, and the Vatican.
I would love to see other parts of Italy, though.

Rome, for the history.

Sardinia.

I was stationed there briefly (Navy).
Couldn’t wait to get back to the States when I was there, but I occasionally get nostalgic over the place.

Most definitely Rome! It is the foundation of one of the greatest empires the world has ever known!
