Does it seem strange to you that, as of right now, more jellies have been followed by 100 followers than jellies that have reached 10K?

Really – what’s up with that?

How do you know more jellies have been followed? Is there a way of viewing this information? Are the jellies with more than 10k lurve at least some of the same people with 100 followers?

As to followers… it seems to me, the more people you follow, the more that will follow you. I tend to only follow people whose posts I actually like. There is something about them I have at some point really connected with. Perhaps other people have different reasons for following jelllies?

People follow for all sorts of reasons, some of which probably have nothing to do with the quality of the follow-ee’s contributions. And even if someone gives consistently great Qs and As, so good that they attract a ton of followers, they might not stick around long enough to reach 10k, you know?

@Bellatrix Privateer award – Reached 10,000 lurve. Awarded to 169 users. Siren’s Song award – Followed by 100 jellies. Awarded to 185 users. Here.

Fair enough. Haven’t really bothered looking at the awards in any detail. Thanks for the info.

I am glad. It shows that lurve is not a popularity contest, but it truly reserved for the deserving.

@marinelife I agree; I gave lurve to you in agreement with this. I usually only lurve people when they have an answer that is helpful and I like, not if it is stupid and comical. I think I’m pretty generous, saying that I’ve already maxxed out on a few people…

I’m wondering if any of the past migrations from other sites has anything to do with this? (I’ve never thought of it until now though, not until you have mentioned it @MyNewtBoobs)

I remember when the users from AB joined and I think many of them added their friends from that site that come over here. I recall looking at a few profiles to get to know some of them and I couldn’t believe how many people they had following them in just a few short days. Those were a very busy few days with so many new users.

This is all just speculation. I really have no idea.

I don’t think it’s all that strange.

Remember that individual users have a limit on how much lurve they can give another, and have it count. After a certain point, they can give GAs and GQs, but it won’t add to the user’s lurve score.

On the other hand, I reached 10K well before I reached 100 followers. ;-)

As for me, I came to Fluther from another Q&A site as part of a mass migration last year and we all knew each other and followed each other almost immediately…

Not at all. Theoretically, at least, you can have legions of followers the day you join. Getting to 10k or even 1k happens many times faster than it used to, but it still takes some time.

Well, getting to 10k isn’t drinking the ocean, but it’s no easy task either, I suppose. Although I haven’t really noticed any of that stuff much. Nothing weird though, most members seem to follow a considerate amount of people, and are followed as such, too.

Like @iamthemob, I reached 10K well before reaching 100 followers (which I still don’t have). :) I didn’t come with any migration from another site though or even with knowing people here before I got here.
