Can you conceive four days after your period?

Asked by tan235 (877points) May 10th, 2011

hey guys,

I have a normal 26–28 day cycle, I normally can tell when I’m ovulating and it’s normally around day 11… however is it possible to conceive four days after your period?
Just curious as to whether it’s a really low low risk or entirely possible given I have a constant cycle each month.

Thanks

Possible, yes I think so. But the more likely pregnancy concern situation would be your partners sperm staying in your body until you were ovulating, which can most definitely happen.

how long does sperm actually live for inside a womans body, I’ve heard conflicting numbers…. is there a specific time or does it depend on to many factors.

How are you determining that you’re ovulating?

As you point out there are conflicting numbers on how long sperm can survive in the vagina, but I think 2 days tends to be a conservative estimate.

It’s possible, but unless that’s when you ovulate, unlikely.

Entirely possible. I got pregnant with my oldest daughter just three days after my period ended. Apparently I ovulate early.

sperm can remain active and alive in your body anywhere from 3 to 8 days, depending on a large array of conditions. including ph levels, moisture levels, etc.

@WillWorkForChocolate the longer the time the sperm is active before ovation the more likely it will produce a girl.

You probably do ovulate day 12 if your cycle is 26 days? Do you feel the ovulation, or are you using LH indicators? The LH goes up a little before ovulation, so that is why you might be thinking it is day 11.

I think it is very unlikely you have a ripe egg that can pop out day 4.

Oh wait, day four of your period? Or, four days after your period? How long is your period? If you had sex day 9 then of course you can get pregnant.

I am guessing that pregnancy is in your immediate future.

BBSDTfamily's avatar

Absolutely it’s possible. There is no 100% “safe” time of the month to have unprotected sex if you don’t want to get pregnant.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

I have heard the scientific explanation of “safe” times and not safe times, but I can tell you from experience, I have gotten pregnant at the beginning of my cycle, at the end, in the middle, and even during my time of month!

hey @JLeslie it was 4 days after my period, so day 7…. I have a short period x

JLeslie's avatar

@tan235 I think it is very unlikely you will be pregnant from day 7. Not impossible, but highly improbable.

Yes. The sperm hang around in there for a few days. Good thing is, there are OTC tests that can check if your are preg extremely early.
