So what have you assumed, lately?

Asked by _zen_ (7857points) May 23rd, 2011

Here, elsewhere online – or in your exciting real life.

Have you assumed something – and been right? Wrong? A complete idiot?

I always try to remember, but am usually unsuccessful, that when you assume you make an ass out of u and me.

I always assumed that @queenie smelled…

I used to assume that I couldn’t get chicks because I didn’t have a lot of muscles and a nice car, but I was wrong because I’m getting chicksssssssss lol.

I assumed I had an exciting life, until I spent time at a senior center. They play a mean game of shuffle board!

I assumed I knew about the orange tree, until @wundayatta came along.

I assume that my wife and kids will be together in my house every evening, usually by 6, but sometimes later. I’ve been right on that one pretty much all the time.

When is a meme not a meme?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I assumed my sister would call me today.
I think I will be alright

I assumed that a friendship would be simpler than it is proving to be.

The position, in bed, with the wife. Yes that’s right, i’m a floozy ;¬}

I assume things all the time. I try to always say the assumption out loud so I can be corrected.

I guess the most recent was I assumed there were more belly dancers in Israel than in NY.

_zen_'s avatar

Statistically, even if every other person were a belly dancer – there are twice as many people in NYC as in the whole of Israel.

;-)

I assumed that all couples share the things I share with my partner but was wrong.

Cruiser's avatar

I assumed someone would be in the mood for a normal adult like conversation.

_zen_'s avatar

Are you talking about me? Are you talking about the Obama post – or something else.

Mamradpivo's avatar

I assumed that the world was not actually going to end over the weekend and it looks like I was right.

JLeslie's avatar

@zen You are talking numbers, I am talking perceptions. Most people think Jews are everywhere in the US, a large population, an unbelievable amount of power and money, but we are 2.5 percent here. Miniscule. That would be a wrong assumption many Americans make, how many Jews there are in the US and the world as a percentage of the total population.

I assumed after the rapture date, there was going to be a hundred questions about on Fluther, and I was right.

_zen_'s avatar

@JLeslie True. That is a wrong assumption. But then Jews control the media.

Cruiser's avatar

@zen Nope I was thinking of another person I know.

_zen_'s avatar

Oh, ok. Cause I’m up for a serious chat.

Cruiser's avatar

@zen Fire away…pm, email or skype!

_zen_'s avatar

It could be here. I can’t think of something serious besides boobs. Maybe you should go first.

yankeetooter's avatar

That someone cared for me more than they apparently did…and that they at least cared enough to talk to me about things, somehow…

I once made the assumption, after hearing a friend heavily criticize religion, that the friend was an atheist. I was wrong, because when I said I was an atheist, he was surprised and kind of jumped on me about it lol.

anartist's avatar

I assumed that the last place I would ever hear that “make an ass out of u and me” would be on Fluther.
My boss used it quite a bit at the Navy Yard.

nikipedia's avatar

I assumed we did right in our attack on Osama bin Laden, and now I’m not so sure.

JLeslie's avatar

@anartist There is a famous episode of the Odd Couple where Felix uses it in court. So funny.

@zen, it didn’t occur to me to question whether we had permission from Pakistan (we didn’t) or whether it was permissible to kill him rather than capture him and give him a fair trial. I just assumed his being killed was the right thing to do, and everyone on the “good guys” side would be happy about it.

I always assumed @erichw1504 was an alien… still looking for solid proof apart from his tail.
I also assumed he wore cheap cologne, which turned out to be true.

I assumed that Americans would vote for their own best interest, I was wrong. They now vote the way international corporations tell them to vote. They have become so ignorant that they need others to tell them where their interests should lie.

@noelleptc That’s just gnarly! Go shower right now!!

ratboy's avatar

I assumed, in the hope of deriving a contradiction, that the square root of thirteen is a rational number. The correctness of my assumption is an open question.

MilkyWay's avatar

That people will answer the questions I post on here.
Guess what? They do :D

I assumed that a local tiger I befriended on facebook was capable of babysitting my kids for 20 minutes. Boy was I wrong…

That patience and dedication works wonders. It’s just a matter of time and being resilient. Yes it’s starting to work for me.

anartist's avatar

I’m an ass and so are you.

_zen_'s avatar

@anartist You assume correctly, my friend.

anartist's avatar

@zen I forgot the ~ at the end of that remark.

_zen_'s avatar

@anartist I assumed as much.
