After dyeing your hair (or having it done by colorist), do you wait to wash your hair for a few days, or wash it normally on schedule, as usual?

Asked by jca (36062points) June 4th, 2011

Whether you go to a salon, or dye your hair yourself, do you wash your hair the next day or purposely wait a few days to wash it?

I wash it the next day, as usual, with shampoo and conditioner formulated for color-treated hair. Some of my friends wait a few days to wash their hair.

I am curious what the collective does.

You mean after it’s freshly dyed? I wash my hair the next day. I’ve had no issues with it coming out because of that.

Wash it normal on scheduel. Because, if you were at a salon and they washed it after they dyed your hair, or put thecolor in your hair, it should be safe to wash.Otherwise, if you did it yourself, I would wait 24 hours to wash it again.
I would know, my mother dies her hair 24/7. (She’s getting OLD, w/ gray hairs. ‘Nough said.)

I used to wash it on my regular schedule. I always dyed it at home.

Do you wash the hair dye out immediately after the dye job or just rinse it in warm water?

I used to just rinse and use their conditioner. I kind of miss brown hair.

I wait a couple of days. I have baby fine hair. It doesn’t do to do too much to it too often.

I dye my hair with henna, just like Lucille Ball

I don’t bother washing my hair before the process. However, there’s no way to escape washing afterward. I mean, I’m literally smearing 500 grams and half a liter of lemon juice on my head and letting it sit for four hours. It takes a few washings to get all the plant matter out. ^_^

When I got my hair dyed with semi-permanent dye, it felt so amazing and soft and silky and since they washed it immediately before cutting and colouring it, I left it for a couple of days after that because it just felt and looked so nice and healthy. Then I started washing it as usual but with shampoo specifically for colour treated hair to make the colour last as long as possible before it faded.

@bkcunningham: I get it done at a salon, and they wash the dye out (of course) when the process is finished. They use shampoo and conditioner, a thorough washing. Then I wash it the next day, as I wash my hair every day.

I wait three days because the color will leakout and get all over everything if I don’t which just means spending more money I don’t have because then I would just have to get it done again. The thing is that you want to make sure the dye is really in there and not leaking out.

If I get it done at a salon I will wash it the next night. If I colour it myself I will wash it very thoroughly to get the dye out then skip 1 day before I wash it again. This is because I find box dyes fade much faster and I can skip a day because it was washed harshly the day I dyed it.

I wash mine everyday regardless.
