What can I do next to fix my digestive issues?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) June 6th, 2011

A month ago I asked this question about beating some stomach issues I picked up in Mexico.

Basically, I had diarrhea for a few weeks. That part is done now, but my stomach still isn’t back to normal, and it’s been over two months now. I saw a doctor and gave stool samples but they didn’t find anything.

I took a bottle of probiotics (45 pills, twice a day) but it’s still not better. I just started my second bottle, but I still want to take further action.

My symptom now is just that my stomach loudly and uncomfortably churns after eating.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

You are taking 45 probiotic pills twice a day? Or is it 4 or 5 probiotic pills a day?

I had some digestive problems and what worked for me was to go raw (veggies/juices) let my stomach rest and get a round of colonic therapy…once a week or so for a month or six weeks.

Wait…just read your previous posting….I would also do a parasite cleanse. Definitely. Look up Dr Hulda Clark…and try her regimen for parasite cleansing.

Sorry 45 pills total, once twice a day. So 22 days! The doc said I didn’t have a parasite, would the cleansing still help? I did the BRAT diet a few times, and it was better during it, but went back after.

MY oldest step-son picked up a parasite after a trip to Mexico. It took years for his stomach, GI tract and appetite to return to normal, I am sorry to say. It also took several trips to several doctors to get the correct diagnosis.

My sympathies.

PS. I see that the doctor ruled out a parasite. That’s probably good news.

Different doctor. In my opinion they need to let you try the antibiotics no matter what the cultures say. This is unnacceptable.

You go back to your doctor, and if they have no more ideas, you ask them to refer you to someone who might.

Don’t bother going back to thay doctor. Call his office and tell him you continue to have problems and wonder if he will prescribe medicine for montezumas revenge or if he can recommend a doctor, preferbly infectious disease. There is no reason to pay to go back to the same doctor, because there is nothing to examine. If you go to a gastrointerologist he will want to do a colonscopy and other most likely unnecessary tests. You have a clear connection to what most likely caused this, they should give that diagnosis a chance.

There is a huge probability that the doctor might be wrong on the initial diagnosis. My advice is that have this tested in another hospital. If the results come out like the previous one, then try colonoscopy. I have also heard about this case where certain previous issues in your childhood can cause chronic stomach pain in later years. If the previous results are negative, try meeting a psychiatrist or so.

I know of a product that might help but I won’t plug it here. If you’re interested, PM me and I’ll give you the details.

I have to say I have had the same experience as @gailcalled. My husband picked up some bug in Bali and while they could never find out what it was exactly, he had digestive problems for years. Seems better now but he still gets flare ups.

Sounds like it could be parasites or something….?

(I wasnt finished! Damn app!)

Ask your doctor, if he doesn’t know, get another doctor.

I would also add digestive enzymes and make sure you are purchasing probiotics from a health food store, independently owned is best.

Let me second @seperate_reality! All probiotics are not created equally.

I also think the second opinion from a doctor is a good idea.
