What are some unique ideas for tattoos dedicated to a new baby?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) July 17th, 2011 from iPhone

My s/o and I both want to get tattoos once our baby boy arrives. I think I know what I’m getting but daddy still needs ideas. He wants to stay away from footprint/handprints. Is there anything else that’s more original? Any ideas/links/pictures are welcome! Thank you!

You could write the baby’s name on his arm, and the date.
If you want something more “picture”, angels, hearts, stars, or wings would be cool.

@Tay122 I love wings but it makes me think of an angel that went to heaven. Maybe just the name and date would work…

How about a star with the baby’s birthdate. Then another one for each child you have.

I think it would be more meaningful if he waits until the baby is born to decide and here’s why… When the baby is born or early on while hes growing there is going to be something that triggers a life long memory for him about the baby. He can use that memory as inspiration for the tattoo and when the baby is grown whenever he sees the tattoo he will go right back to that great memory of when your son was born. Also if he does that, as your son grows he can add in new memories and hell eventually have a whole piece (sleeve, back or wherever hes getting the tattoo) and that will most certainly be priceless.

Here’s an example. A tattoo of your belly with a footprint or hand print might remind him of the first time he felt the baby kick.

I have a friend who got a couple unique tattoos when her granddaughters were born. She has one dogwood flower on each thigh and she had the flowers tattooed in the shape of her granddaughters’ first initials.

This is my S/O’s idea. She is incredibly original. The first thing that popped into her mind was a small vagina with a baby’s head popping out. How precious!!

@plethora I have that tattooed on me, so?

@Simone_De_Beauvoir I heart you.

I don’t do names or birth dates. For my sons I have this on my arm “for you are fearfully and wonderfully made…”
When I got pregnant with my first, I knew immediately it was a boy. And I saw a dinosaur and knew I’d get it tattooed on my butt, for my new little pain in the ass. I predicted correctly. I plan on a dinosaur on my butt once I’m done having kids, for my first child.
I get tattoos to represent people or times in my life, it should be something special to you..something that reminds you of your child. Wait until he’s here and get to know him. Put a lot of thought into it.

Angelina Jolie had the lat/long coordinates of her kids’ birthplaces tattooed on her arm.

And I like @casheroo‘s plans, too. I really like the idea of something more than just a name or birthdate. Try to pick a reference that evokes a story about your kid.

I’ve seen a mother with the baby’s actual footprint tattooed over her heart. It looked tasteful.
