Have you ever taken a sabbatical from Fluther and why?

Asked by rooeytoo (26981points) August 1st, 2011

It seems as if people often disappear from Fluther for varying periods of time. I recently asked Auggie about someone whose absence was glaring and she said this person was taking a couple of weeks off. So I just wondered how many have taken a holiday from here and what were your reasons?

I was gone during vacation when I was blissfully away from my computer. :)

Then I found it hard to get back into the groove of answering questions, but I think I’ve broken through that funk.

Actually, I’m sure it had more to do with the fact that I was giving all my energy to a play. It sapped me. I had no energy to give to any of the other normal daily activities in my life. Hell, even sex took a hiatus for a week or 2 while I was engrossed in the play. ;)

@hawaii_jake – well I am pleased you have returned, I missed you! How was your play, worth the effort?

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@rooeytoo : Yes, it was a resounding success. :)

Good job, Jakie, I figured it would be with your input!

I’ll prolly take a break for August when I’m touring around New Zealand! But come September, when I’m back in boring lectures, I’ll be back to the Fluther!

rooeytoo's avatar

@Schroedes13 – you are coming to NZ and not stopping in Queensland to visit me and Bellatrix??? That is so cold!

Schroedes13's avatar

I will be in Sydney for a few hours…..if y’all want to come the airport, I’ll meet yas for drinks! :P

Sydney to our state is like Ontario to South Carolina. I would love to meet you hehehe, but it is a bit more than an afternoon drive! Now you should hop on a plane and come to tropical Queensland (much prettier and warmer than NZ) and just as much to see and do. How about the Great Barrier Reef, am I tempting you yet???

Schroedes13's avatar

Yes, I guess as much. That’s why I put the ”:P” at the end. Gosh! lol

I have no reason to visit the GBR, except to mourn the loss of the greatest zoologist of all time and kick the shit out of a specific sting ray.

I love learning about the ocean and oceanic creatures, but I have no reason to enter its waters!

Okay, okay, what made you decide to visit NZ instead of Australia, which is really the more desireable destination undoubtedly!

Schroedes13's avatar

Well, I actually have no desire to visit either place….sorry!

I am going to NZ for a lass.

Your profile says you enjoy traveling but you have no desire to visit down under??? Makes no sense to me, but hey lots of things don’t. Hope you have fun in kiwi land.

I just did last week when I went on vacation.

rooeytoo's avatar

@Cruiser – well welcome back, hope you had a wonderful time. Great new avatar!

Thanks @rooeytoo!! Had a great great time! Best weather ever on that lake!

I tried to take a vacation (really, a staycation), but I ended up on the site every day, anyway. I even worked! I am… lame. And hooked. :p

rooeytoo's avatar

@augustlan – it is good that you love your work! and it is good for us flutherers as well!

No. I am here (pretty much) on a daily basis but it doesn’t affect my personal/professional life so I feel no need to take a break. If, for whatever reason, I can’t get here one day then I don’t exactly get withdrawals so I don’t see it as a problem.

When people say they need to take a break from Fluther because they are spending too much time here I often wonder why they need to stop using Fluther completely rather than just cut back a bit. It all seems a bit melodramatic to me. Can people really get addicted to a website?

rooeytoo's avatar

I think people can get addicted to just about anything, well except may brussel sprouts!

I wanted to take a break, go hide under a rock, but couldn’t. Love it too much here!

I took a 6 week break earlier this year. Fluther sometimes frustrates me and makes me cranky :-) and when I start getting that way it’s best for me to take a break rather than let that attitude escalate, I think. That’s how I choose to deal with it anyway. I guess I was feeling extra frustrated and cranky and decided a good long break might be in order. I wasn’t sure if I could do it but I did. But it was good to get back too. I missed everyone.

We missed you, too @lillycoyote. <3

@augustlan I had to come back, I remember. I was lurking one day during my fluther “sabbatical” and Cruiser asked this question and I thought “What the heck is wrong with Cruiser? He knows this one. These poor people are obviously completely helpless and lost without me.” I had no other choice. ;-)

rooeytoo's avatar

I am with auggie, you were missed and wb @lillycoyote!

@augustlan and @rooeytoo thanks! You guys are so sweet! Your kind words mean more to me than you can know.
