I love the word "Fluther". Would this be a good name for my camper? What would you name your car or camper?

Asked by FluffyChicken (5521points) August 4th, 2011

I was thinking of naming my 1997 Euro-van (buying it on Tuesday!!!) “Fluther”. Not after this lovely website, mind you, but in reference to the collective noun and as a tiny nod to the Merry Prankster bus named “Further”. What do Y’all think? What would you name YOUR car or camper?

Congrats on the new car! For some reason I pictured it with the fluther jellyfish painted on the side.

Everyone used to jokingly call my car The Bucket. It was a real P.O.S. My best friend calls her car Beatrice, and that’s a real shitty old clunker, too. Naming a car can really make it feel like part of the family.

My old car was called the “Jankmobile” because it was a barely-functioning hunk of shit.

When I got my Jeep Liberty, I named it “Liberty Prime” after the 50 foot Commie-killing robot from the Fallout 3 video game.

I even put the robot’s actual voice track from the game on a CD, so whenever I turn on my jeep, it says: Liberty Prime is online. All systems nominal. Weapons hot. Primary objective: the destruction of any and all Chinese Communists.

@Haleth I eventually intend to paint a big lifelike jellyfish with tentacles all along the side of the van.

My dream car (Mustang) would be named Loretta. But for now, I’m getting my mom’s Fusion, named Glitter.

I call my car ‘Silver’, like the Lone Rangers horse. lol

‘Hi ho Silver, awaaaay!’

‘Silver’ is fast and sturdy and smooth. ;-)

Perhaps I’d call it “Puffy Poultry”. ;-)

Cool that you know about the Merry Pranksters. :-)
Based on a tangential reference to the Pranksters, I might call it “Cuckoo’s Nest”.

@Brian1946 I really dug The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolf. Everyone interested in American history should read it.

The last car I owned was a 95 Buick Roadmaster, so my friends told me that it had to get a woman’s name. I chose Elizabeth Bathory.

My SO’s first car was a 15-year-old junkheap called Betsy. “Bets’e won;t start. Bets’e’ll break down.” When we sold it, it was bought by a guy who wanted to use it for stock car racing. We told him about the name and he promised to paint it on the side of the car. Dunno if he ever did though.

I will never own a car so I don’t have to think up any names for one. However, if I did, it would be something related to the type of car or the colour, or both. Like, if I had a Ferrari I would give it an Italian name.

My car’s name is Betsy. :)

And I can’t believe there are two people who name their car Betsy.

Half of the reason I want a car is to name it. I don’t think I could predetermine a name. I’d know it when I saw the car.

I have informally named my aging Corolla “Yoda.”

Cool, a new car.

If I had a car, I’d definitely name it Lil’ Pussy Wagon. Saw that in a horror flick, I’m sold. Realistically speaking though, I suppose car names often come with anecdotes and incidents, good or bad. So I denno.

I think she has a name…

It’s Monomyth!
