How do I get this window to stop popping up when I open Firefox on my Mac?

Asked by desiree333 (3219points) September 24th, 2011

I recently bought a MacBook Air and am still getting used to it. When you download Firefox for Mac, a window pops up in which you have to drag the Firefox icon into the Applications icon after it installs (or maybe before). This is the popup that keeps popping up.

I figured this would stop once Firefox is all installed, but here I am a week later and it won’t stop. It only pops up the first time I open Firefox after every time the MacBook sleeps or gets shut down. How do I get it to stop?

I am having exactly the same problem and the same unworkable icon on my desktop.

I have an iMac with the latest (pre-lion) OS 10.6.8 and have been trying to upgrade the Firefox for months. It’s still at 3.6.20.

I too can download but not install and was thinking of asking fluther about it. So, I’m all ears.

Doing the upgrades on Safari has been effortless.

Move the disk image to the trash after you’ve dragged Firefox.app to your Applications folder. You must be opening the disk image every time you want to open Firefox.

I cannot drag the Firefox. app to the Applications Folder. The download won’t install.

What error message does it give you?

Drag the firefox icon in the popup window to the folder icon in the popup window. A small message window should appear telling you that the application is being copied to the Applications folder. When the copy is finished, right click in the popup window and select “eject” from the menu appears. Somewhere, probably in thr Downloads folder, there is a firefox ”.dmg” file that may be consigned to the trash.

No error message but no icon on the desk top to drop into the Application folder either.

I will try again to see whether I can grab the firefox icon… Back in 15 minutes.

@ratboy: I was successful. Thanks. I am grappling up the learning curve.

I am not having problems with the Firefox icon on my toolbar. Everything works fine, I just don’t like that popup.

@ratboy Thank you! The popup is no more now.
