Did I overdose on TV?

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) October 24th, 2011

Alright, so there was a show that I used to watch when I was younger, and found it agan available for download. I watched all four seasons in a couple weeks. around 88 episodes

Now I am just obsessed with it. The animation, music, storyline, characters, everything about it. I have to listen to the music, and it just takes me back to the show and its just great. I sometimes find myself wshing I could live in that world for a while, because its so diverse and complex, I love everything about it. I also daydream almost daily about it, and what it would be like, I just can;t get it out of my head.

Did I overdose on a TV show finally? What causes this exactly?

Also, if anyone here has watched Code Lyoko, did you find anything simmilar?

I knocked out 4 seasons of Mad Men in 10 days, don’t feel too bad.

But I finished watching it like, 2 or 3 weeks ago, and It’s still suck in my head. Thats what I’m wondering about.

I’m not really sure about that. I’m no expert, but it sounds like an escape fantasy of sorts. Are you stressed?

@ANef_is_Enuf Far from it, or at least that I know of. I’ve always had a very vivid imagination, but not quite this persistent.

I don’t know what causes it but I’ve done that with a number of shows. After my dad died, I crawled into bed with my laptop and chain-watched 4 seasons of Ugly Betty online in a little less than two weeks. Binge T.V. watching is healthier than binge drinking at least.

I’m with @lillycoyote in that sense. I have done it, but it’s usually when I’m stressed out or avoiding something. If that isn’t the case for you, I’m not sure. Maybe it’s just as simple as you really enjoying it.

@ANef_is_Enuf Maybe, its hard to describe, its just awesome in every sense, but I wish there was more.

@XOIIO I have felt that. I have never been very big on watching TV, but I’ve been really sucked in to a few series over the years, and a few have given me that sense of feeling unsatisfied when they are done. Not because I didn’t enjoy the ending, but just because I want more.

@XOIIO Yes, you are now currently dead.~
There is a semantic difference between addiction and overdose, yo’ best be learnin’ it.
And as far as opiates for the masses go, I’d stick away from the religion. Maybe that’s just me.

@everephebe I don’t actually watch a whole lot since I’ve seen pretty much everything I’m interested, sometimes I come across something old but I usually just program, or play a mix of games or something, I don’t cosntantly watch tv shows sicne I remember them to well. Once and I’m done.

I say, no. There’s nothing quite like mainlining a TV show. And really, you wouldn’t be asking this if you’d just become sleep deprived reading a Dickens novel and become obsessed with all things A Tale of Two Cities, or if you were perhaps a giant history geek and were spending all this time obsessing about Robespierre. And really, the only difference is that books and history are classically accepted as “good”, and tv is classically accepted as “bad”, for no reason other than that the first two have had time to be accepted. So, embrace your nerdiness. Examine everything to frightening degrees of minutia (also called “critical thinking”: true story); come over to the Dark Side, we have cookies.

The same thing happened to me with Chuck, three weeks later I’m fine and have a healthy like for the show.

I have never seen the show 24, and I have played with the idea of watching each season in a 24 hour straight viewing.

Go do some volunteer work at the local food bank. That will take your mind off these issues.

Bah, why would I help people????

YARNLADY's avatar

@XOIIO What? Are you serious?

XOIIO's avatar

Yup. It really doesn’t benefit me in anyway although bannanas do smell good so I don’t see a point.

YARNLADY's avatar

@XOIIO I trust you will never need help in any way. Most people receive as much pleasure from helping as they do in giving help. You are truly missing out on a very important part of life.

XOIIO's avatar

@YARNLADY If I need help I find out how to do it myself. After what I’ve been through you lose faith in humanity and don’t trust people for shit.

But yeah, tv, awesome xD

Code Lyoko was amazing!

@XOIIO To condem the entirely of 7 billion people because of the actions of a few is extreme.
