What is the least popular opinion on Fluther?

Asked by saint (3975points) January 10th, 2012

As far as I can tell, there are several contenders. Certainly, those who believe in a deity are held in low esteem. Those who think the current President is a loser are in big trouble, as are those who voted for the last President. Those who think it is immoral for the government to be a broker of charity in exchange for votes might as well drop out, and I infer that some have done just that.
But there HAS to be the ultimate supreme unpopular opinion on Fluther.
What is it?

That women are only good for baby-making and cooking and shit.

Here I thought it was that Lindsey Lohan is a positive role model for young ladies.

I really don’t think that our atheists or anti-theists are any more outspoken than anywhere else on the internet. If anything, I think it’s damn tame, even at its worst.

I would venture a guess that sexism and racism are high on the list, though.

mazingerz88's avatar

That Facebook is a great social website.

Blackberry's avatar

Well, no one really accepts pedophilia. Lol.

Ayesha's avatar

@rebbel LOL. Nailed it.

Aethelflaed's avatar

That spelling and grammar just don’t matter.

SavoirFaire's avatar

The least popular opinion would be one where we get no debate because everyone agrees. As such, I contend that none of the options in the OP come anywhere close to being the least popular. Every debate on any of them gets healthy representation on both sides, often from the same people each time. It’s only people who can’t handle their opinions being criticized who claim to think that the site is biased (as opposed to just a little lopsided sometimes).

saint's avatar

@Aethelflaed That doesn’t count. They always matter, no matter the opinion.

Blackberry's avatar

@SavoirFaire But, we don’t want anyone to feel attacked.

everephebe's avatar

Gay people are sinners. Maybe? The “God hates fags” crowd isn’t welcome here.

DominicX's avatar

Yes, we get it, the old “conservative opinions are oppressed” deal…

Personally, I think racist opinions are probably the most unpopular. Have we ever had a user who linked to their stupid “studies” that show people of certain races really are less intelligent and less capable of doing certain things? I’d be curious if one of those “scientific racists” came on here with that kind of bullshit…

Seaofclouds's avatar

That the Twilight series are good books.

TexasDude's avatar

This question is easy to answer if we include super extreme stuff like necrophelia and performing oral on your grandparents or whatever, so I’m guessing you are asking what the most unpopular opinion on fluther is that is actually defensible and held by more than just a few members of the public at large?

bkcunningham's avatar

I was shocked at the responses to the question about incest being prosecuted.

tinyfaery's avatar

The least popular opinion is that the mods are censors, have personal vendettas or are nefarious in any way.

The second one is that I’m a nice, affable girl.

saint's avatar

@tinyfaery
The second one is that I’m a nice, affable girl

But….I believe that…

syz's avatar

@Blackberry Actually, there was a question about pedophilia some time ago that seemed to have 1 or 2 sympathetic opinions, if I remember correctly. I think that had to be an all time “most unpopular opinion” thread.

We’ve also had a few necrophilia questions, but I don’t remember them becoming contentious.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Oh!!
That it is okay to generalize about groups of people.

Blackberry's avatar

@syz Yeah, I was thinking of that. I could feel the digital stares of disapproval all over Fluther, although it seemed some were just being non-reationary to understand the viewpoints and get information from the people who admitted to it.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

Oh yeah, I just thought of one, rap is music. Shocker!

Paradox25's avatar

I could say that my own classification as a secular theist is likely not too popular with either atheists or religionists regardless of which site I’ve made my arguments on. Even the New Age crowd doesn’t care for my views. The term secular theism is not an oxymoron but an actual philosophy that a growing number of paranormal (psi) researchers and paranormal supporting scientists have taken up. I’m not sure if this is the most unpopular viewpoint on here but it is probably the most unique to say the least. My ‘religion’ would be similar to that of the likes of Sir Oliver Lodge. I’m probably the lone pro-paranormal voice on fluther.

SavoirFaire's avatar

@Paradox25 We’ve had other pro-paranormal people. They come and go. And we’ve had other people with views about God outside of the theism/atheism/agnosticism trilemma. Very little is unique here on Fluther.

Blackberry's avatar

And homeopathy.

Mariah's avatar

Homophobia is up there.

Paradox25's avatar

@SavoirFaire None of them have argued for the phenomena like I did. I’ve had some very heated debates about these issues as far back as late 2009 on fluther. I’ve debated Christians and other religionists too on their own websites. It is not something that I care to do regularly but on occasion I will offer an alternative opinion. Personally I’m more into researching about my ‘hobby’ rather than debating it.

Just for the record I’m not a conspiracy theorist and I’m not familiar with every aspect of what is termed as ‘paranormal’. My main areas of interests are ghosts, spirits, afterlife, God (I call god Mind) and esp.

SavoirFaire's avatar

Sorry, didn’t realize you were using this thread to advertise how cool you are.

janbb's avatar

Anti-Augustlanism is the most unpopular opinion.

Paradox25's avatar

@SavoirFaire You brought it up.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

Anti-Mariahity is also unpopular, And should be outlawed if it exists.

bkcunningham's avatar

The most unpopular topics I’ve seen on Fluther are cheap Louis Vuitton handbags for sale and such. I don’t know why but everytime I see this brought up, the mods delete the thread. I’m sure there is discrimination here somewhere.

saint's avatar

@bkcunningham Possibly because the mods only carry genuine LV handbags. They pretend to be new age Sensitives, but in truth they are probably just grubby Consumerists, like every body else in positions of power. It’s the same all over the world.

bkcunningham's avatar

Did you get new glasses? They look really nice.

saint's avatar

Photoshop

bkcunningham's avatar

Is that an expensive brand? ;)

I don’t know if it has been mentioned, but apparently bestiality and incest aren’t as unpopular as something like being Republican or reading tarot cards…you have a right to do something extremely ethically questionable, but not to be dumb!~

OpryLeigh's avatar

If you’re question or answer even hints of some form of prejudice (sexism, homophobia, racism etc) then you definitely haven’t done yourself any favours here.

gailcalled's avatar

Suggesting that you’re still means you are and is not a synonym for your continues to be very unpopular.

Gay people are contagious.
All women are sluts.
All women are cock-teases.
All women are bitchy.
All women are something.
All men are sexist pigs.
Every dream means something.
You should base life choices on your horoscope.
Women with extremely short hair are still sexy.

Babbys can be stored in a frizzer.

TexasDude's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate wait, Fluther doesn’t think short haired women are sexy? What the fuck is wrong with this place?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard I’ve seen a ton of members say they don’t really like short hair on women, which is sad; I thought I looked quite cute with short, spiky hair. :(

Blackberry's avatar

@MilkyWay It’s not good when you have to say you’re not gay before complimenting someone of the same sex. You don’t have to do that here. :)

MilkyWay's avatar

@Blackberry I apologise. If I had done that over here, people would have thought so. I’m afraid the whole gay thing is a whole lot of a big deal over here…

SavoirFaire's avatar

I love short hair. My wife has short hair, and I think she looks amazing.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@MilkyWay Awwww, shucks ma’am. <blushing> So when do we move in together and pick out our china pattern?

MilkyWay's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Um… I think it’s time I move out Momma…
No, seriously. You’re beautiful.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@MilkyWay OK then, seriously, thank you so much! You totally made my day. And you’re not so bad, yourself, kiddo! =0)

linguaphile's avatar

Rape. One jelly in the past described a situation where he basically asked if he date-raped his friend and asked for justification. The Collective spoke (hissed, spit, etc), and he’s been hiding since.

LoVe girls with short hair. For awhile my wife rocked the pixie cut. I just loved grabbing it when…

everephebe's avatar

Women with short hair are sexy.

Once there was a co worker I liked a lot who had the short hair, and other people called her a lesbian and butch behind her back. :/

janbb's avatar

@gailcalled No hair on that woman would be sexy. One of the most beautiful women alive.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Blackberry Yeah, that happened to me, too. Except I actually had a few people, including an elderly lady, call me a dyke to my face. I had short red hair and facial piercings. So I was a dyke. =0)

@gailcalled Oh yes, she is incredibly gorgeous, no matter how her hair looks!

janbb's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Adorable! Will you sleep with me?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@janbb Well, I dunno… You’re not gonna do weird things with your flippers, are you?

janbb's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate Oh confess it! You love the weird things I do with my flippers!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Only when they’re covered in chocolate.

Jude's avatar

Short hair can be sexy on women. Butch cuts, though? No.

SuperMouse's avatar

After reading through this whole thread OK I skipped a lot of the debate about the sexiness of short haired women, mine is usually in a knuckle cut – nuff said, I think @King_Pariah hit the nail on the head! The least popular opinion here on Fluther is that parents shouldn’t discipline their kids. Whenever some youngster comes on and starts talking about how awful their parents are treating them because they; made a mess with ketchup at McDonalds, got home after curfew, were seeing their boy/girlfriend behind their parents’ backs, got caught stealing, flunked out of school, etc., etc., they are soundly trounced by The Collective.

For the record, I am die hard Flutherite and dedicated long term jelly and a devout theist. I do not see the two as being mutually exclusive. As for the rest of the opinions @saint mentions, I am pretty much inline with the Fluther majority.

Blackberry's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate I’m sorry to hear that, but it doesn’t matter because you were probably more attrective than them, anyway. You look great.

Edit, I accidentally said Supermouse, but I’m sure she’s attractive too lol.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Blackberry It’s okay; it was actually quite funny.

rooeytoo's avatar

How could you forget the “It’s okay to spank your kid or dog” theories!!!

choreplay's avatar

What about bald men with pot bellies. Ever see the bald men thread and all the bashing going on there. I’m not bald by the way.

Oh, ya, to put my opinion out there WillworkforMFchocolate is purrrrdie.

This is a fun thread, it’s like a buffet of bad topics.

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard – Going down on the grans – oh dude ick – you win bad topic award. ick ick ick ick ick

MilkyWay's avatar

Woah… i just got modded… o.0

rooeytoo's avatar

How about “Wal Mart is a wonderful place to shop!”

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

There was absolutely no reason to mod off that comment by @MilkyWay. Seriously. Some people are too pissy about redonkulous shit.

rooeytoo's avatar

What did @MilkyWay say, I’ll give you my opinion if it is moddable or not.

augustlan's avatar

[mod says] One of the words used was right on the line of flame bait. We know that @MilkyWay didn’t mean anything negative by it, but a stranger reading the site wouldn’t know that. We felt it best to remove it.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Yeah, but there are a ton of people who feel the need to say, “I’m not gay, but you really are attractive”. It’s just a weird, subconscious need to clarify part of your statement so no one looks at you funny. I didn’t see it as flame-bait at all; I just saw that she’s a teen who felt the need to say that. I can understand the point of newbies not understanding where she was coming from though.

bkcunningham's avatar

I’m not really into weasles, but if I were… ; )

augustlan's avatar

Just to clarify… there’s no problem with saying something like “I’m not gay, but you really are attractive.” The flame-bait issue was just about one particular word that was used in saying it. That particular word can be considered a slur in the US.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Ahh, I see. I guess it didn’t bother me because I’m not as sensitive about gay slurs. Sorry for getting pissy about it. =0)

rooeytoo's avatar

At the moment, the idea of saving your beloved dog from drowning instead of a strange human! ;-)
