Of course your issues should be addressed by a health care professional, but I am curious about something. Being postmenopausal at 46 seems a little young to me. Have you had surgery that put you into menopause?

hottie65's avatar

no i had no surgey of any kind that would do that. I had a baby at 32 wo died at birth and shortly after that I noticed I wasnt having a period every month and the Dr said I was in peri-menopause and that went on till may of 09 and nothing until 2 weeks ago.. not sure whats going on I thought it was aperiod but everyone I spoke to said it would not be a period after 3 years

Were your FSH, estrogen or thyroid-stimulating hormone levels checked to determine you were actually transitioning to menopause?

hottie65's avatar

Yes they were, and the Dr said back in 08 my levels were low but i still may have the odd period and I did until May of 09 and he said once I went 12 months without bleeding i would then be postmenopausal, so I just assumed thats what it was and then the bleeding 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately, and as I am sure you know because you will have probably done some research around the symptoms of ovarian cancer, the symptoms women who do have ovarian cancer can also be a whole range of other things. I can only imagine the stress you are feeling right now, but until you see your doctor, we can only guess along with you. Wait until you speak to your gynecologist next week. I am sure they will be able to give you a clearer sense of how likely it is you have ovarian cancer. Please let us know how you go. In the meantime, spend time with friends and people you love and try to keep busy. You must be driving yourself crazy with worry (I know I would be).

Thank-you@bellatrix yes I am worried but, trying to stay positive, and I read ovarian cancer symptoms are vague in the beginning and can be mistaken for other problems as well and they have ruled out any pancreas problems, so i will have to wait and see what he says..thanks for the kind words.

Actually, @hottie65, your FSH levels should have been high during menopause. You may have meant that in your above statement. Tender breasts, tender stomach, loose bowel, all of the above sounds hormonal. It may be one last push of the hormones.

My lipase levels were high prior to having my gallbladder removed. I had five gallstones the size of walnuts and had suffered with a large variety of symptoms for so long before surgery, my gallbladder was diseased and adhering to my pancreas. I had that constant sick-gnawing stomach for about a month. Physicians thought I was having heart problems at the time. It was all related to my diseased gallbladder.

But, please, make sure you follow-up with your doctors. Best wishes.

@bkcunningham thank-you and they did an ultrasound and said my gallbladder was fine they were thinking gall bladder too, but no and when the Gyne got the referral last week from my dr, he told his nurse to get me in the next emergency consult appt which is on the 31st at 7am and his nurse said after 3 years I would not have aperiod and thats why i am worrying cause all these symptoms for so long and now the bleeding and pain I DK anymore but thank-you for the input.

I hope everything turns out for the best, @hottie65. Please, let us know what they determine. I know it is difficult, but try not to worry. (((hugs)))

@hottie65 Do you live in the US? I’m wondering why you would have to wait until November for a colonoscopy.
I sure hope that you find out what the problem is very soon.
Best of luck to you and let us know how you are doing.

Hi no I am in Canada the price you pay for free health care eh!! have to wait forever for a test..unreal

wilma's avatar

@hottie65 I wondered. I have heard that same complaint from Canadian friends, about having to wait a long time to see a specialist or for testing. I’m sorry to hear that.

Ok so it is set in stone you are being checked out in November? Hopefully the gyne can require a sooner date. However until then, load yourself up with “anti-oxidants.” I can’t stress how strongly anti-oxidants can alter your body for the good. In case you don’t know how they work here’s a short video. Now they won’t necessarily cure you, but they will help repair some damage. anti oxidation

Hi @hottie65 – daft though it may sound – did you carry on using contraception after your periods ‘stopped’? There is just a possibility, with some of the hormonal excesses you describe and the pain, that you might have an ectopic pregnancy going on. Good luck with your gynae consutant – they will definitely be able to rule that out, or indeed the ovarian connection. Waiting until November for any tests seems ridiculous, perhaps as @auhsojsa suggests, it can be made sooner… It has to be really! Best wishes, keep warm and comfortable, get that exam out of the way and get well .

@auntydeb ty and no my tubes were tied in 98 after the death of my baby and 5 miscarriages the Drs decided i would never carry a baby to term. so pregnancy is out of the question..@auhsojsa ty for the vid on antioxidants and yes the waiting for appts are very aggravating especially when your not feeling well.

auntydeb's avatar

@hottie65 – so sorry to hear that, well, all the best for the tests. A good mug of cocoa is about the best I can suggest then, comfort and care until you know more.
