What is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) May 8th, 2012

Is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom a separate product from Adobe Photoshop CS4 (like Photoshop Elements is really a separate product), or is it part of Photoshop? If it’s a separate product, what would you use it for, that’s not in the main Photoshop product?

I know that Photoshop questions have been asked before, but the most recent one seems to be from 2009! A lot may have changed since then.

I have mostly used Photoshop for digital photo editing, for which you need only about 20% of the whole application.
Lightroom has all that 20% in it, for a lot less $, and with a fantastic interface. I highly recommend Lightroom for digital photography.
If you are doing composition (not digital photo editing) you may need the additional features of Photoshop.

If your editing digital photography, lightroom is the way to go, especially if you shoot in RAW. The amount of munipulation you can do is amazing.
