Can you recommend a fancy screen saver?

Asked by RocketSquid (3483points) July 21st, 2012

My high end computer is going to be connected to my large TV from now on, and I thought it’d be neat to find something to display on it when it’s not in use. However, Seeing as typing “Screensaver” into google is a nice, quick way to destroy a computer, I thought I’d ask Fluther if they had any nice screensaver ideas.

System 47
Vector based, so will scale up to any screen size without problem.

Here is a demonstration of what it does

continually creates new patterns from materials drawn from your computer and others. Incredibly soothing and sometimes astonishingly beautiful. You have to be comfortable about how it shares, though. I am, and I am fairly cautious about things.

@ragingloli yours looked pretty cool too. I downloaded it.

I also like my screensaver that sets the screen on fire slowly. Don’t know where I got that

If you’re using a Mac, the iTunes album browser makes a great screensaver that doubles as jukebox.

And for holiday time they have several depictions of the old fashioned Yule Log (along with musical background) which ironically were created for in the 50s and 60s for TV screens (and a lot better than the test pattern)

This isn’t fancy, but I like the Photos screensaver that comes with Windows. I have a lot of pics on my pc and I started making copies of all new photos and dumping them into a single folder that I point the screensaver to. It’s like having one of those electronic picture frames going, only a lot bigger and doesn’t take up any additional space in your office, home, wherever. You can randomize the pics and choose how long they stay on the screen before moving to the next picture. My nephew will sit in front of the computer watching the pictures for an hour at a time and I have to say I find myself and my husband doing the same (although not for hours!).

The Free Fire Screen Saver, which is dramatic and has burning sound effects and burns up whatever is on your screen can be downloaded from cnet
