Just how new does a user have to be for the answerers to qualify for the Starfish award?

Asked by Aethelflaed (13752points) July 31st, 2012

Is it a lurve level? A number of hours/days the user has been here?

Perhaps it’s awarded if the answerer gets a GA on a new user’s first question, before the new user asks their second question.

It could be that once the new user has asked their second question, the Starfish will not be awarded to any subsequent answers in the new user’s first question.

The above is just a guess.

What an excellent question. One I don’t have the answer to, I’m afraid. I’ll pass your question along to someone who might. :)

I had to check the source code. The answer has to be less the two days after the new user joined.

@ben

Would that be anytime less than 48 hours after the new user joined, or anytime up to the end of the first day after they joined? E.g., if the NU joined on August 1, then would it be anytime up the end of August 2nd, even if they joined at 11:59 PM on August 1?

I always thought that it was getting a GA on a user’s first question. But of course, the source code will end all disputes.
