Gag-inducing girly question - I want to dip dye my hair, how do I do this/what should I use?

just go into Sally’s or something like that and get Hi Lift- ask at the store they’ll tell you because you did not specify your colour of hair.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again.. I don’t recommend trying dip-dying yourself if you don’t have a lot of experience with coloring your own hair.
The brand of bleach doesn’t really matter, and as @trailsillustrated said, what you buy will depend on your hair color, texture, and the current condition of your hair. Someone at the beauty supply should be able to help you find the right product.

@DigitalBlue – maybe, but I really can’t afford a professional dye job. And the beauty of dip-dyeing is it only affects the tips of your hair – if I royally screw up I can just hack off a few inches at the end and be fine.

@efritz well, as long as you’re open to the possibility of having to hack off some of your hair – I suggest getting a friend to help you. You will probably have the best luck if you use a thick formula (you can probably mix up some Quick Blue bleach with 30 or 40 volume developer (I don’t know how light or dark your “brown” hair is) and apply it with a brush & bowl (you can usually buy these for cheap at the beauty supply, and don’t mix bleach with metal utensils or a metal bowl). Don’t leave bleach on your hair longer than 30 minutes, it will not lighten any more, it will only continue to damage your hair. If you don’t get the desired result after one application, then wash and condition your hair… and wait a day or two before applying again.
