Facebook blocked my IP address?

Asked by NostalgicChills (2787points) November 5th, 2012

I was on Facebook, and I got a message saying something like my IP is blocked for 2 days. What gives? I didn’t do anything bad.

It’s the real Facebook.

You might have had spam or some remark coming from your account that caused the block?

No matter what, I’d contact them through Help

Did you express any anti establishment opinions?

They have bots looking for specific behavioural patterns that they link to spammers and other fraudsters. You probably inadvertently did something that mimicked one of those patterns. It could be something like sending out a message to a large number of people, or copy/pasting a status for the 17th time, or adding a large number of new friends, or just adding a few friends from someone’s friend list.

This has happened to me twice before, though I did nothing wrong. After the period they stated, my access was restored and nothing was changed. I wouldn’t sweat it.

@glacial
That makes sense, but the thing is- I’m VERY inactive of Facebook. I go online once a day, and update my status literally once a year. I don’t talk to people, send messages or do anything excessive.
@Pazza
No I did not.

Does anyone else have access to your computer ? ? The block may not be for you but for another user of the computer.

@NostalgicChills When you get access back, change your password. Make sure you always log out if you’re using a public computer. That should eliminate any risk from hackers. You’ll probably never know exactly why your access was blocked.

@Tropical_Willie
No, it’s my personal laptop.

@glacial It said the IP address would be blocked for 2 days, but I’ve been able to get on Facebook. And I changed my password the second I saw the message.

@NostalgicChills Were you using it on a public wifi ? ?

@Tropical_Willie
I’m not sure actually.

If you are using any wifi there is a possibly that the IP address was used by someone else before you. This problem maybe re-occurring in the future. Also the fact that you were able to log in again, means you were on a different IP address.

If facebook doesn’t recognise the ip that is associated with you, it will block it. It’s happened to me.

simply change your Ip address.. But
You cannot change the ip address, if you are using static ip address.If it is dynamic ip address, you can change it easily by resetting the modem or switching it off and on.you can also use Proxy server or Hide ip address software to change the ip address.
