Is the "Observing/Composing members" feature broken?

Asked by downtide (23815points) February 1st, 2013

A Flutherer has contacted me in PM to ask if there is a problem with this feature, because since fairly recently, she only ever sees herself on this; i.e., never more than one Observing or composing member even when others appear to be active in the question. I can’t really check right now because Fluther isn’t currently active enough but she and I are curious if anyone else is seeing the same thing?

Observing members: 0 Composing members: 0

Seems fine to me. I’m on a laptop.

I haven’t noticed that it isn’t working. I was on a thread the other day where there were five people observing and a couple composing so it was working yesterday.

No, it’s working for me.

It seems OK to me. I just watched the “Observing members” number change from a “1” to a “0”, and the “Composing members” number went from a “0” to a “1”.

I haven’t noticed a problem here. Just yesterday I saw other members lurking and composing.

Just slow on postings, not a lot of squishies on the line.

It’s working for me.

I’d consider leaving if not for the “crafting a response” crayon…I like it a lot!

Crafting a silly one-liner.

Move on man, or put another way…change the fucking record!! ~

When you click on “General”, and “Social”, and “Meta”, (as opposed to when you are on an OP, where you see ”... is composing” with the green background) how many “composing” crayons do you see in each section?

flo's avatar

I see 1 or noone from each section, and that can’t be. A few people from each section must be answering at any given time, I’m thinking.

I wasn’t aware there has ever been a feature to show it on those pages. Not a whole section at a time. AFAIK the feature only exists at all on individual question pages. I guess we will need feedback from Ben or Andrew to confirm how those pages are coded.

@downtide On the section pages, you will see a pencil to the right of the Q if someone is currently composing an answer on that Q. So, you could see multiple pencils if multiple Qs are active at that moment.

@downtide yes, it also gives you the number of composing people unless it is just 1. There is nothing about observers.
