What are some of your favorite movie moments or scenes?

Asked by Pachy (18610points) February 1st, 2013

One scene I always look forward to when watching “Moneyball” is when Billy Beane goes to pick up his daughter at his ex’s and her new husband’s ocean-side house. The three have an awkward conversation about Billy’s team problems and parenting. It’s a wonderfully written acted scene. I could spend the rest of the day listing scenes in other movies I love—like when black and white turns to Technicolor in the “Wizard of Oz,” and the delightfully tense Ferris wheel ride in “The Third Man.” I never get tired of certain movie scenes or moments no matter how often I see them. What are some of the specific moments you always look forward to?

I can rewatch the Other Guys (Goodbye Sheila) or Step Brothers (so much more room for activities) anytime. Finding thigs that make me belly laugh is not easy. :)

The opening scene in Blazing Saddles with Cleavon Little where Cleavon Little says “Are we awake?” And Gene Wilder says, “That depends. Are we black?” When Cleanvon Little says “Yes,” Gene Wilder says. “Then we’re awake.”

The squirrel scene with Kathy Bates and Whoopie Goldberg from Rat Race.

Darn @Pachyderm_In_The_Room, I was hurrying towards the comfort of a warm hotel lobby but now I’m sitting here outside, at a Metro station platform in freezing cold posting an answer to your movie question which I happen to enjoy. : )

When Michael Corleone returned to the restaurant table with a hidden gun.
When Deckard grabbed Sean Young the android at the door and ravished her with a kiss.
When the dead body in the morgue with Ben Mears comes back to life as a vampire.
When Andy Garcia made Al Capone’s thug swallow a bullet at the train station.
When a goblin shooting arrows at the Fellowship gets one right between the eye from Legolas. Something I knew would happen two seconds before it did.
When James Earl Jones cuts young Conan’s mother’s head off. No blood. No grisly shot. Just part of her long golden hair falling on the side of the screen as her hand lets go of Conan’s hand, her body toppling as the boy looks at her with nary an expression. At that point, you know the movie wouldn’t end without Jone’s head undergoing a minor case of decapitation. Lol. Awright f*^#k it. It’s cold!

@marinelife I LOVE Rat Race! That scene is just hilarious.

For me, The Great Dictator has so many great scenes. I particularly love this one. But by far, the best scene in the movie would have to be the speech scene.

I also love pretty much every scene from Misery, but the scene where Annie Wilkes dances around the room shrieking, “MISERY’S ALIVE, MISERY’S ALIVE,” makes me laugh every time.

@mazingerz88 Conan, forgot that, I bet I’ve watched it at least 100 times.

@KNOWITALL Love those comedies myself. Have you seen Talladega Nights? Or that latest Galiafinakis political comedy with Will Farrell? Plus that Will Farrel movie where he played an anchorman. Not as good as Stepbrothers or The Other Guys but worth checking out, imo. : )

@mazingerz88 Those crazy kids on Talladega Nights were hilarious, and the kissing at the finish line was pretty funny, too. Anchorman rocked it, too, still like the others better. I like to laugh and be scared both, if I can sit still long enough- lol Peace out!!

*I don’t think I know which political comedy you mean? I’ll have to look!

Afternoon Delight moment in Anchorman. Nice. : )
Well, now I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy that political comedy. That Galiafinakis family dinner scene was seriously funny.

I just saw one last night on TV that is my new favorite scene. On 30 Rock, the alpha male, succeed at everything character decides he needs to improve his sex life. He convinces his current girlfriend from Boston and his ex girlfriend from Puerto Rico that they should have a threesome. The next time these female characters show up, they are complimenting his sexual prowess, and they both speak in identical English accents.

The mention of black and white film changing to color reminded me of another instance of that in The Picture of Dorian Grey. The colored portrait shocked me for weeks. Several years ago I was going through the Art Institute of Chicago. I turned the corner into a gallery and there it was: the portrait of Dorian Grey by Ivan Lorraine Albright. My stomach lurched and it was a while before I could go close and look at the minute details. Hideous, genius, inventive in its depiction of evil. I’ll never forget that scene in the movie.

Although it was only good for one viewing, that moment in The Sixth Sense when I realized what was about to happen (just before they revealed what was really going on) is one I will never forget. I was absolutely stunned.

Tons to choose from, but one that stands head & shoulders above the rest is simply immaculate film making. I have it in my profile here, it’s that good.

Most recently the ridiculous scene in Django Unchained of the pre-KKK guys arguing over the ill fitting flour sack bags on their head before a raid on the main characters camp.
Everyone complaining that they couldn’t see because the eye holes in the masks were off kilter and the guy whose wife had made the masks getting all in a huff and storming off while another says that they should all agree it was a nice effort. Perversely funny. lol
