How to wash my face without spreading pink eye to my other eye?

Asked by cutiepi92 (2252points) July 27th, 2013

I always get it in one eye, and then it spreads to the other eye so I’m trying to be careful. I unfortunately woke up with it this morning. What do you think the best method of washing would be so I do not inadvertently rub both eyes and spread the infection?

Preventing the Spread of Conjunctivitis

There is a two-pronged approach.

Wash hands often with soap and hot water
Don’t touch eyes
Use a clean wash cloth or cotton ball to clean the sore eye.

Edit: That’s actually a three-pronged approach.

I’ve never spread it from one eye to another, and I used to get it all the time when I was younger. Anything that touches the infected eye gets thrown out or washed. To wash your face do it in the shower. Right hand for right side of face, left for left, and then wash your hands well with soap. If you tend to touch your eyes during the day, like rubbing them, it would be really good to get out of that habit. Touching your face makes you more prone to infections and colds, flu, basically most common illnesses. I’m not assuming you do it, just letting you know.
