I need creative ideas to pump water out of a well.

Asked by simone54 (7629points) August 21st, 2013

So, I dropped a the pipe and the $5,000 pump in the well. It’s gone forever and I don’t care.

The well is still there of course. I need ideas for a cheap way to get the water out of the well and into my pond.

I don’t even know if this is possible, so if it’s a stupid idea, sorry.
Can your local fire department somehow pump it out with their equipment with a nice donation to their fire department from you?

Not a stupid idea AT ALL! I don’t know if I can afford a donation but it’s a great idea. Thanks.

What is the diameter of the pipe , 6”, 9”?
how deep ,400 ft 200ft?
How far down is the top of the water level 50 ft.? 100 ft? If you are planning to usea surface pump you will need to know the lift.

Did the hook idea not work?
Did you try grabbers? .

I am sorry for your troubles. These must be trying days for you..

I would call a well driller and just get some ideas about getting the pump out and seeing what it would cost to get the well back on line. They’re professionals, they must run into the same problem at times.

@LuckyGuy
The diameter is 6’’
It used to be 400’ but it caved in so they chaged to 200’. Happened way before I was around so I can’t be sure.
I can see water in the pipe. Maybe 30’ down.

I didn’t try grabbers or anything. I think it’s to far down for anything like that. Plus, the two hundred feet of pipe plus the pump would be really heavy.

I might have a solution for you.
The device you need is called a “fishing spear”. It is made by Mills Machine in Oklahoma.
The guy said this happens every day… every day…

I will PM you with the name and phone number. He’ll fix you up.
