Sound through the body? How cool is this?

“Disney develops ‘magical’ device to make fingertips sing”

This article is incredibly geeky and cool at the same time! I just had to share…

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

How cool is that? I want one.

That’s a new way to whisper sweet nothings in someone’s ear. Or to make an earworm truly infectious.

DWW25921's avatar

@zenvelo Than there’s that… (sigh)

The inaudible signal can be transmitted from body to body, using any sort of physical contact.”

This will be a boon for the sex toy industry.

Yeah, I could play the wife like a flute.
“Whose the leader of the club that’s made for you & me, M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E!”

It adds another dimension to the term “Passion probe”.
Has anyone else noticed it took less than 2 minutes for the comments about this device to devolve into sex?

I will try playing with this in the lab today. (Not the sex part. Sorry.)

Weird but pretty cool.

Two questions come to mind:

1) does the sound transfer through bone or through muscle? In other words, can an erect penis be an amplifier?

2) Seems like this could be, in the wrong hands, a way to subliminally brainwash someone.

@elbanditoroso A new conspiracy theory is born! Although there seems to be merit to this one… You’ve got to wonder…

@DWW25921 – remember, Disney made movies for the War Department during WW2….

@LuckyGuy, I think you spelled “evolve” wrong. ;-)

I have music in my head all the time. I just have to tune in to see what it is. I think I would find such a device very distracting, but it certainly is an interesting concept.

@Seek_Kolinahr I am just showing my age. I looked up “devolve” and see two definitions:
2.(Obsolete) . to cause to roll downward.
4.(Archaic). to roll or flow downward.
Back in my day, that’s what it meant. ;-)

Ok I tried some experiments in the lab. I ran one second logarithmic chirps from 200Hz to 2 kHz at up to 30 Volts peak to peak and still had a sound pressure levels below detectible of 0.00002 Pa. To reach a value that would be detectible in a quiet room I need something like 0.002 Pa or at least 100x that. 3000 volts of modulated signal would be the minimum required.
My lab is grounded specifically to reduce static charge. I would need to isolate myself from the floor and turn off the anti-static generator.
I will play with this some more when I can use the high voltage supply. My guess is it will not work on humid days or if any of the participants are barefoot or touching anything conductive in common (like sweaty bed sheets). I will put the passion probe idea on the shelf.

@LuckyGuy I know what it means. But talking about inner-body sex music is WAY cooler than talking about Disney music in your earlobe.

@LuckyGuy Come on, try a little more on the probe. I have the perfect tune for it. AC/DC, Let Me Put My Love Into You

They’ve managed to do it with toothbrushes. Perhaps an oral incentive? “C’mon honey, let’s break out the iTongue vibrator…”

LuckyGuy's avatar

I suppose I could try high current, low voltage stimuli in the macrosonic region. Each participant attaches a Bovie body ground on their butt and then goes to town.
Heck! I’d try that!

Or there is always the low cost option of a vibrating dildo.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Very, very cool!

Soon the device will be installed inside a tooth filling, secretly recording everything a person says. The NSA will reach out and touch anyone they want life records from.

I’ll never go to the dentist AGAIN!

LuckyGuy's avatar

Ok…. You guys knew I couldn’t leave this alone, right?
I tried a commercial, 2 channel TENS unit. It is possible to put an electrode on each participant and have the e-stim signal go through both bodies. Hand to hand worked well and causing involuntary contractions.

I did not try this but I imagine with proper lead placement one can cause perineal contractions when a certain body part is inserted into a partner’s moist and conductive cavity.
Extensive field testing with human test subjects will be required. The line for applications forms to the right.
