How can I get rid of green hair?

Asked by illusionslies (586points) October 22nd, 2013

I dyed my natural brown hair a lot of highlights of green. I want half of my hair to be brown again. I heard that red tones would get rid of green. I was wondering WHAT brand of hair color I should get and what the color should be, also should i get semi-permanent?

I think you would have to bleach out the green and then dye it brown until it grows back in but I’m not an expert on hair coloring. My son used to dye his blue.

Can’t help thinking of David Banner.

I’m not an expert, but I would suggest getting a red dye from the same source that you used for the green. Apply this to a small section or strand of your hair to see what outcome you obtain. If successful, carry on. If not, seek professional assistance.

Red is the opposite of green on a color wheel and therefore “neutralize” each other in some situations—but I have no idea how your hair would respond. My guess is that some awful shade of black would result.

Ask a salon colorist. I wouldn’t try to do it myself unless I was prepared for all my hair to fall out.

I have died my hair a few times. Usually with Punky Color and similar brands. Usually 30 minutes in a chlorinated pool will undo your bright drunken idea of making your hair midnight blue.

Try anything, or do nothing. Trendy funky / punky hair color will always grow out. Problem solved.

Tattoos, on the other hand…..

Sorry, excuse me. I’m just picturing all of these future grandmothers walking around with huge angry panthers on their calves….

Shave your head and let it grow.

Defintiely take the advice of a professional salon. They will know exactly what shade to use to neutralise your particular shade of green.

See this old movie and maybe you won’t want to.

I coloured my hair with green food colouring when I was about 15, I even went to school with it green, not the done thing in those days, the deputy head, who was my French teacher, said it was absolutely revolting, comments like that are fuel to a rebel like I was. I walked to and from school, it rained on the way home, I wasn’t a pretty sight but it was damn fun.
