What is the translation of "nostalgia" in Elvish?

The word doesn’t exist in Elvish.

The closest I can give you is to describe one’s longing for the past.

“____ mily— wanwie”

In place of the dash, you’ll conjugate based on the verb tense.

Past tense – milye (longed for)
Present tense – milya (long for)
Future tense – milyuva (will long for)

In the underscored area, you can place a pronoun.
Amin = I or Me
lye = we
he/she = ro/re
you = lle
they = ron

This way you’ll end up with something like

Amin milya wanwie. ( I long for the past , or roughly, “I am nostalgic”. )

It would take a year to teach you all the intricacies of the written Elvish languages – there are two, and each are written differently.

The writing style on the One Ring is an ancient style, and different than, say, the Feanorian Tengwar you see on the Door to Khazad-dum.

Instead of giving a full lesson on how to write Elvish, I’m going to cheat and give you an Elvish generator.

You can put anything into there, and have it transliterated into Elvish, but it is not a translator. The language stays the same, just changes the alphabet.

The writing on the ring is tengwar, is it not? It’s the same alphabet as on the door into Moria. But the writing on the ring is not Elvish, it’s Black Speech.

The writing on the Ring is the older version of Tengwar – so Tengwar proper, with the flourishes – not the Feanorian Tengwar, which is more Uncial looking.

And the language is Black Tongue, yes.

The writing is Elvish script. The language on the Ring is the language of Mordor, called the Black Tongue, and it is not as complete a language as Elvish. There is no word for “nostalgia” in Mordor.

The words on the ring are as follows:

Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul,
Ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.

Since there is no written alphabet for Black Speech, any instance of the Black Tongue being written in LotR is done in the old Tengwar script.
