Is it remotely possible that Bruce Jenner, instead of being a tragic victim of gender fate, is really just a publicity hog?

Asked by josie (30934points) June 15th, 2015

He may be a tragic character to be sure.

Or he may be hungry for public attention. Or bedazzled by the prospect of making millions in book deals, speeches and interviews.
Or a diseased neurotic, or even psychotic, who imagines he can defeat aging with cosmetic surgery.

But the popular assumption is he is a tragic victim. So that is the story.

Why isn’t it popular to call him out on the other issues?

This story really gets your goat, doesn’t it?

I don’t see her as either a tragic victim or a publicity hog. I see her as someone who came out to what she felt she was.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about how we define female experience as opposed to male or transgender experience but Fluther is not the place I would discuss them on.

If Bruce were Australian he’d now be called Sheila, an amusing thought.

@ucme
And not Caitlyn?

I just looked for a pic of her, fuck me, it’s Michael Douglas.

No more than you.

Perhaps she is, but she’s also a ground-breaker.

Let’s just wait and see what happens without prejudging.

@Pachy Not really a groundbreaker just one who is high profile right now. There were Renee Richards and Jan Morris years ago an many other people are transitioning now. I find it a bit hard to see what the big fuss is over Caitlyn Jenner.

You’re really bothered by the Artist Formerly Known as Bruce huh?
