What is a great question to ask a potential employer at a job interview?

Asked by Metafore (18points) July 20th, 2008

There’s a long list of books written with cookie cutter questions. What can I ask at my next interview that will make me stand out from the crowd?

First, research the company that you are interviewing for a job with. Then come up with a question about their specific business. Say, for example, that you found a press release on their web site announcing a new line of business. You could then ask, “Since you launched your such-and-such product line this year, do you anticipate further expansion in the category of such-and-such area as you grow?”

What the question might be will have to be dictated by what your research uncovers. It is a good idea to go through their Web site, become familiar with their product line, read recent press releases, see if articles have been written about them by the media or analysts.

The point here is that you demonstrate to the interviewer that you took the time to learn about the company, and that you are interested in and have a grasp on what they do. It will definitely set you apart from people who come in and just go through the motions.

any questions you ask should be relevant to you. The answer should be something you want to know to help you decide if you want to work there.
