Can I get an easy abortion one or two weeks of being pregnant?

Asked by dopeguru (1928points) October 18th, 2015

I’m freaking out because I’m afraid I’m pregnant. I had unprotected sex though was on birth control last week. I had just started taking the pill.

My problem is this was last week and I feel hungry very often, its 6 am and I just woke up craving for ice cream. Other than that I felt fatigue this whole day. I don’t know how to know for sure. Is there any way I can have a test this early and know if I’m pregnant? Or is there a pill I can that will prevent it even if I am pregnant?

Breathe.

Even if your slip up did lead to pregnancy, you wouldn’t have cravings for a long time.

Sometimes people just want ice cream.

If you skip a period, take an over the counter test.

You said you just got on the pill. Did you do Sunday start, or first day of the period start?

Unprotected sex last week? But you had just started taking the pill also. Okay.

1. It takes a month for birth control pills to actually be active. Doctors will tell you to keep using condoms for the first month.

2. You will not crave ice cream from being one week pregnant.

3. Wait and see if your period comes before you freak out.

To answer your question, there is a pill called RU486, which causes you to begin your cycle. It would do the job, but you will need to get it from a doctor.

@filmfann: The purpose of RU486 is medically induced abortion. It’s a little euphemistic to say it just “causes you to begin your cycle.” I believe it has to be taken within a day or two of conception to be effective.

I’m not against it, I’m definitely pro-abortion, just wanted to clarify for the OP, it’s not just “to begin your cycle.”

The chance you are pregnant is very very low if you took your pill daily and started the day you were supposed to. The pill works right away, either you have the hormones in you or not. The only tricky thing is the first month people often start the Sunday after their period starts, and so if you started your period on a Monday for instance, then that month might be risky, because it was so many days until your start day for the pill.

Here’s the thing, what day did you have sex after your period? If it was within a week, the chance you would get pregnant is low even with out birth control.

How many days since the first day of your last period right now?

It doesn’t actually take a month for BC pills to work, and I have literally never had a doctor tell me it did.

The packaging says if you start on the first day of your period it basically works immediately. If you’re a “Sunday Starter” you should use backup birth control for a week, just in case you tend to ovulate early in your cycle.

You’re actually only really fertile for approximately five days during each month. 98% of pregnancies occur during days 8–19 of the cycle. If you had sex and it was during days 1–7 or 20-the end of your cycle, you’re probably fine. But again, if you skip a period take a test.

The things you learn when you can’t afford birth control. Haha.

Every time I’ve tried birth control, the doc has always told me to keep using condoms until I’ve been on the pill for a month.

Gee most drug stores sell home pregtest kits, get one and see then panic, and use protecti
on all the time unless you want the sounds of little feet running around.

Get a pregnancy test and you will be 100% sure. There are early detection pregnancy tests.

^ And before you waste $10 or more, be aware that home pregnancy tests only work after a certain amount of time has passed.

The POAS (piss on a stick) test detects a hormone that is secreted in your urine. As an ovum can be released and become fertilized up to 72 hours post-sex (that’s why the time limit for the Morning After pill is what it is – Plan B prevents ovulation. It does not terminate a fertilized egg) and it can take up to three days afterward for implantation to happen, the body may not even start producing pregnancy hormones until well after a week following unprotected sex.

Get a couple of early detection pregnancy tests from the store. However, even those, if taken too early, won’t detect a possible pregnancy. Usually, the earliest they can detect is when you’re around 4–6 weeks pregnant. A blood test at your doctor’s office can detect a pregnancy around the same time frame, but is typically more accurate than an at home test.

Plan B is meant to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. Anything after that and it won’t do you any good at this point if you are pregnant.

If it turns out you are pregnant and you choose to terminate, you have two options. A pill – so you can terminate at home, or a clinic procedure. Either way, you have to have a follow-up. Honestly, I would recommend the clinical procedure if it comes down to it, for multiple reasons.

If you do choose to go to a doctor or clinic for a pregnancy test, also get a test for sexually transmitted diseases.

dopeguru's avatar

@chyna I only slept with 4 guys in my life and my partner and i have been mono for almost a year and he is tested

si3tech's avatar

Not all STDs are the same. There can be as long as a year “window of opportunity” between the exposure and the time antibodies show up in your blood.

JLeslie's avatar

Are you preggers?

_Seek_'s avatar

Too soon to tell, @JLeslie – She’s got another three weeks or so.

JLeslie's avatar

She never answered the actual days past her period. I think the question is spam probably. Even if it’s real, if it has not been long enough, which I think also, then the chances she is pregnant is so close to zero it’s not worth worrying.

dopeguru's avatar

@si3tech So if I’m tested after having sex with someone, I may not know till a year after what the real results are?

@JLeslie I didn’t check. I will take the test probably tomorrow, though it may be too soon as my usual period cycle is in two weeks.

JLeslie's avatar

Your usual period is in two weeks? I’ll save you the money, you aren’t pregnant.

dopeguru's avatar

@JLeslie Thank god because I just broke up with him lol

JLeslie's avatar

Unless you had unprotected sex in the last few days?

You need to read up on menstruated cycles and when you’re fertile. Girls should know that stuff.

JLeslie's avatar

Menstrual cycle. They really need to fix the edit. I make too many typos.

And she should definitely be tested for sexually transmitted diseases, because apparently this guy wasn’t trustworthy and slept around, and lied to her about it.

I can see why she found him so appealing~
