What are the qualities she possesses to make you want Clinton for President?

Asked by Aster (20023points) January 17th, 2016

Why do you long for Hillary to be elected president? Her honesty, respect for the Constitution or her genuine caring for American prisoners ? Maybe other positive qualities you’d like to mention.

I don’t.

If Bernie loses the primaries, I’ll vote for her, because she’s the best Republican in the race, but I don’t have to like it.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Well for one she isn’t a radical hard, odd ball right winger named Trump, and that has a lot in her favour.

She’s smart. She’s experienced. She knows both domestic and international issues well. And I agree with her stance on about 75% of the issues.

So I will vote for her if she wins the nomination. Right now I am leaning to vote for Bernie Sanders in the Primary.

@SQUEEKY2 aren’t you in favor of your native son Rafael Cruz?

flutherother's avatar

She is experienced, charming and smart and has none of the disconcerting lunatic qualities of some of the other candidates.

Her husband Bill was a great president, but, at the time, she would have been better. She has everything she needs, and more of those things than any other candidate, to be president. Best person for the job BY MANY A MILE!!!

Zaku's avatar

I don’t, because she’s owned by the corporations.

I support Bernie Sanders.

I may give up caring who’s president for good if Clinton gets the Democratic nomination.

Much like the ROTW, you yanks are forced into voting for the least loathsome candidate/party.
That or simply abstain.

Silence is a vote of assent.

I don’t. The nail in the coffin for me was when they sent Chelsea Clinton on an attack against Sanders on his health care policy. Really? If Bernie loses then I will either vote for the Republican nominee (if it’s Kasich or Rubio) or throw away my vote on a third party candidate.

Bill was not a great president. He presided over the dismantling of the welfare system and more importantly he signed the repeal of Glass-Steagall which fueled the subsequent bubble and financial meltdown.

She is smart, strong willed, competitive and focused….pretty much everything I would want in a leader of our county but she is neck deep in so many controversies and the fact that she stood by her husband when he clearly was guilty of many poor choices in his amorous pursuits negates all her positive qualities. Plus she lost out to Obama 8 years ago and the last thing I would want is someone worse than him running our country. I want a President/leader who is trustworthy without a checkered past.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I don’t, I can’t stand her. She’s exactly the same as most other politicians and should be running as a Republican.

I’m voting for Bernie, end of story. I will write his name in because I’m not playing the stupid game anymore.

Hilllary should not become the first female prez, had her chance, blew it.
That historic appointment needs to be a woman who deserves it, earns it & who is, err…sane :D

If Clinton receives the nomination, like other Sanders supporters, my hand will be forced. The Republicans believe they would prefer to run against Sanders, so there’s going to be a lot of dumping on Clinton prior to the nomination. Right now I’m pulling for Bernie, and I think his chances are a lot better than the entrenched politicians of either party believe. When the day comes that the press is compelled to cover him, things are going to shake up considerably for Clinton. His arguments and positions are difficult to counter, and we arrive at the discussion as to who is the REAL liberal.

8 years ago I really wanted her. I felt she was smart, would look at healthcare, and focus on balancing the budget. Moreover, she would have almost no learning curve. She has lived in the White House and her husband knows how the system works.

Right now, I’m not sure whether I’m for Bernie or Hillary. I’m
Most interested in how they would approach international, geo-political issues. I’m woefully ignorant on too much if it, so I don’t know whose answers I like better.

Cruiser's avatar

@JLeslie I am not a fan of either but if international, geo-political issues are what is at the forefront of your mind, I would go with Hillary all the way. As former Secretary of State she has been on the front lines of all things that pertain to our international interests and trumps Trump, Bernie and all other contenders with her experience in international matters.

JLeslie's avatar

@Cruiser I just think the international stuff is really important, and I’m not concerned about Domestic with either one, even though they differ in some places. For that matter, since you brought up Trump, I’m not worried about him on domestic issues either.

Cruiser's avatar

The way I see it @JLeslie is that any issues we have internationally will take a back seat to our domestic issues and both domestic and international concerns all have to go through Congress. So we need a President that can pander/cater to and lead all those Senators and Congressmen towards the end game of setting policy that will move our country in the right direction. I see so very little from both Hillary and moreso Bernie that gives me any reassurance they will be able to lead and direct anyone other than hard line Democrats and that IMHO is an invitation to another 4–8 years of a do nothing Congress and both you and I will be the losers in the end. Seriously….if Obama couldn’t get bi partisan support in Congress what do either Hillary or Bernie bring to the table to do a better job in getting Congress to work in a bipartisan way?? I just don’t see it.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

She will not get vote. Aside from being 180 degrees from her politics she comes across as so arrogant, vain and self serving. I can’t imagine the damage that could be done with her at the helm.

rojo's avatar

@Cruiser I am afraid the days of bipartisan support are over and have been for about 16 years now. Bush/Cheney ran roughshod over Democratic opposition and forced their way with no concern for bipartisan support. Such a mindset continues in the House and in the Senate. The will of the minority means nothing to the Republicans because they seem to have no desire for compromise.

With that being the case, NO DEMOCRAT will be able to get support from a Republican controlled Congress.

And, if it means eight more years of impasse, then I am for that rather than see what I would consider a step backward by having the Republican Party control all three parts of the government and implement their agenda. Sorry.

@Aster Clinton is not my idea of an ideal candidate, she is, to my mind, a consummate political animal. What she has going for her is simply that her professed views are much closer to my own than any of the Republican candidates. Although, based on that criteria, I should probably vote for Gary Johnson if Bernie is not in the running.

JLeslie's avatar

@Cruiser Who will get bipartisan support? Bush was made president, at least partly, supposedly, because he would be good at getting dems and republicans to talk to cooperate. Bullshit. The only people who might have believed it were Republicans. I guess he did get most everyone to vote to go into Iraq. I’ll give him that.

You tend to lean to the right, so I would guess you can’t easily think of one democrat who can bridge the gap and reach over to the other side. It’s pretty much impossible in national politics as long as the citizenry consuming the news media continues to like the hate for the other side. I don’t mean just Republicans, I am talking about both sides.

Most of what we see in the media are the disagreements. That gets the revenue, gets the politicians air time, gets them re-elected.
