What happens when I follow someone? On Fluther that is.

Asked by DaphneT (5750points) May 20th, 2016

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on Fluther, and my memory has suffered some losses. Does anything particular happen when you follow someone? As in, does Fluther set some code that favors the followees activity in some way?

Nothing happens. You just appear in their list of followers and when you follow them, there is a notification in the community feed.

I think you are more likely to get Questions for You from them.

^ Yes. That feature is broken right now, but in general, following people whose questions you like definitely makes sense.

Somewhere a unicorn weeps with unbridled joy & is then scolded by the herd for playing the drama queen

Nothing special happens. You can get questions in the Just For You section under the People You Follow tab.

So, to recap, something happens:

You give and get Lurve points, if applicable.
If the person you follow asks a question, it will appear on you—(unbroken) “Questions for you” feed.
You can access the followed person’s questions at any time by clicking on the “just for you” tab, and then “From People You Follow”.

It can be a good way to access content you’re likely to participate in on Fluther, especially if there’s a problem with any of the personalization features.

The only thing that I’ve found is that you can’t share a question with someone, unless you’ve followed them. Well, and questions for you.

“On Fluther I mean.” .... Lets get this party started and stick with “What happens if I follow someone?” with no qualifier!

Miss Information:
In fact, you can share a question with anyone on Fluther as long as you know the correct spelling of their user name.

If you’re following them, all you have to do is type in the first letter of their user name and a list will populate with all the jellies whose names start with that letter. But only if you’re following them.

I’ll do a test on your assertion, though. You may be right.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yep. Works.

Hey @Stinley! I used you for my experiment because I wasn’t following you. I sent this Q to you. Just know it was an experiment and I didn’t mean it! Consider yourself followed now.

ibstubro's avatar

I did not state an assertion I did not test first.

I got a bit excited as I thought Questions for You was working again

ibstubro's avatar

Don’t you hate that, @Stinley! lol

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’m sorry @Stinley! I was afraid you might!

Stinley's avatar

It was in the spirit of enquiry so I will forgive – this time :-D

Dutchess_III's avatar

Hey…it means I love you! I get tickled when someone sends me a “Q for you.” It means they’re thinking of me. :D

Stinley's avatar

True. I do like it really

You might end up with a jelly friend for life.

Or the person ignores your existence.
